"Service in 30 days" - what does this mean?
I know I set myself up for alot of jabbing on this question, but what does it really mean?
Oil was done by dealer after 2000 mile break-in.
6 months later has 3000 miles and message "service in 30 days" is on.
What's the story?
- forgot to reset service interval light?
- is the service interval purely milage or is there a date factor too?

Um, it means that in 30 days, its time for a service visit. Probably the 1 year service visit.
If you have had it in for service, then the provider apparently did not properly reset the service interval.... why the cars don't allow the owner to set those values is aggravating as heck.
The interval is mileage AND time. It will indicate service at 10k or 1 year, whichever comes first, which is when the first service is due.
If you took it in early, the reminder should have been appropriately reset.

I have an 09 C2S; after changing my oil, I had the same "Service in 30 days" counter show up. I got
http://www.durametric.com/default.aspx
and reset it.
I hope this helps.

Yup, the durametric tool will reset the computer. Unfortunately, it resets it to only 1 value, which is the default value. On a 997.2 that is apparently 2 yrs/20k miles. What I'd like to do is set the interval to a value I program (don't see why that isn't possible, since I could do that on my 1994 VW Golf easily enough) so when I change my oil early, I can still set the necessary reminder for the next service, which may be the 2-year brake flush service, or the some other service. I'm hoping durametric gets this sorted out at some point.
