I thought alcantara would be preferred since it is more grippier than leather and comfy but I don't see many cars with it, any reason?
also, can a 2010 911 order be placed now to get it by july?
Thanks

Alcantera has some advantages but bottom line it's a synthetic material (a blend of polyester and polyurethane) and IMHO not as classy or classic as leather. It's supposed to be relatively easy to clean but the suede look has got to be more problematic than a good smooth leather finish. I don't know how an alcantera interior will look after 20 years of wear, but again, a quality leather interior can look like new after that long if properly cared for. I'm glad Porsche has stuck primarily with real leather.

I would rather have vinyl covered seats than alcantara. Actually, I tolerate it as a headliner material but would prefer something else. I definitely would not like a steering wheel or gearshift **** covered in alcantara.

I had a custom Alcantara interior placed in my ex-NSX and I wouldn't do it again. It looks good initially but tends to wear in pants.

The last thing I want is a steering wheel with visible wear marks where I put my hands.
Alcantara is the **** rug of car design.
It looks cool now, but 5-10 years from now, it will be "what was I thinking?"

Had it in my GT3, didn't like it at all. It was like carpeting in many ways, including that it leaves impressions as it's matted down. Many that have had it for a while on their steering wheels are swapping for leather.

I was thinking "Isn't it great to have a no-slip surface on my steering wheel and seat, that holds me tighter when I corner, doesn't get slick if my hands are sweaty, requires very little care and maintenance, and doesn't cook my legs and hands when it gets hot outside?"
