Fact: it's dumb to leave it up in a parking lot.

Hi, Did the black "Carerra S" badges come on your car or did you add them? I have a silver 997 with silver badging, I think black would look much better.

This is such an old thread. I did laugh when I saw the device posted that will tell you if the spoiler is raised. I do occasionally check when passing a black SUV.
I have found the spoiler up once or twice in the garage after a spirited ride.

Quote: I have read many times that the rear spoiler deploys at 75 mph. However, this does not appear to be entirely accurate. According to the Product Information booklet from Porsche, it seems that this is only true for the 996. For the 997 (at least the 997.1) it appears the spoiler's function is also a function of the engine compartment temperature, is it will deploy at 50 mph if the engine compartment is warmer.

I'm not sure how common this knowledge is, as I don't recall coming accross this in any of the previous posts I have read on this topic, so I thought I would share it.

Thanks for this, today it was over 100F outside and after driving for a bit the spoiler started to go up and down at odd speeds, I was concerned but vaguely remember reading about this a few years ago. I had never experienced it before today!

also, replying to the post above from 2019, when it is over 100f, the spoiler has a couple other eccentricities. One being that is doesn't go down and the fans stay on instead of just the fans staying on. This has happened to me when the road temp is 120f or so and the ambient temp is over 100f where I park, or put my car away and will come back to the spoiler up, and the fans on. Oddly, it is pretty eccentric in that, I have also parked and the spoiler stayed up with the fans on but when I came back the next day, the spoiler was down. 🤔🤔🤔

I'm going to see if my Foxwell NT530 scanner can program different speeds for up and down. I'll see if there is a drop down menu like there was for the sport mode on/off.

Mine seems eccentric but it also seems like it is programmed more for cooling than for aero. I do think it helps with stability at high speeds because the car feels so amazing at triple digits speeds but around town, it seems to be more of a cooling feature.

...oh, also, I know my friend used the cable thingy to code out his spoiler going up and down but I know that's not what you mean.

The Lanch X431 allows programming of the spoiler. Since I typically drive on busy secondary roads I seldom reach 75 mph so I figure my spoiler was never deploying and, since things that don’t get used often fail to perform when you do need them, I adjusted my spoiler to deploy at 60 mph and retract at 35 mph. You can also adjust delays and, on a different screen, acceleration settings associated with the spoiler.
