Give Me A Reason Not To Buy The 997?

Either way you can't go wrong.
The 993 is sexier, more visceral and learns to fit you like a glove. You feel like you're on the road- with an upright windshield that's in your face and a cockpit that fits snugly around you. But the 997 is a better car in every respect, superior handling, power, comfort etc. What it lost in viscerality (is that a word?) it more than makes up for in every other department.
They're very much alike and yet very different. Depends on what you want. I'm lucky enough to have one of each.

Ok, here is the story. I am totally financially solvent, in my mid 40s. No wife, no kids, sold my assets at the peak and my job is stable. I have wanted a Porsche since I was like 10 years old.
Have come close to buying it multiple times (a few Boxsters & a 993) but chickened out each time. After reading enough about the 993 and the input of several seasoned members I crossed the 993 off my list.
I can buy a 1-2 year old 997 that is basically a new car which is what I would pay for the 993. Lets see - 2 year old car versus a 12 year old car at the minimum.
There are a lot of sweet deals out there right now. I am trying to work out the gumption to pull the trigger . I was all fired up last night after watching the Ultimate Factory on Porsche last night in HD.
I know a car is a depreciating asset but I am thinking if I dont buy it now, when?
Need that push anyone want to help ?

Not that I'm counting but there appear to be more reasos to buy than not in your particular situation.
Go for it. They are fun, comfortable, safe and if you decide that it isnt for you, the resale isnt bad either.

Could not agree more! I also have a wife (expensive) and 3 kids (very expensive). I know that I could have been more responsible financially by not buying 4 Porsches in the last 8 years, but I don't regret it at all. Buy the 997, it's a great car.

Now all the above rules out one, do you have a lover? I am from NYC, so I jump to certain conclusions!

I got my '07 911 S in Dec '09 and love it. It shares DD duties with an Accord, though the accord wins most times during the week, but not on the weekend. Love slipping into it after a long day. You only live once and life is very, very short. Enjoy it in good health.

Every time I turn that key I smile to myself. I view it as an investment in my mental well being.
If you want an unbiased answer - ask the same question about a 997 in the ferrari forum
