This is a helpful and interesting thread.

Since taking possession of my 06 Carrera (my first Porsche) I've put on roughly 4,000kms. In that time I did the Oil Analysis feature and have noticed the guage hardly dropped until yesterday when I filled up. The system asked me to measure the oil level and low and behold its alot lower. Why it happened all of a sudden who knows but the car goes in for a service tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see what the dealer says and how often I'll be required to top off the oil level between oil changes.

Meh...maybe I should just buy a Corvette...LOL.

I've only had to add a few quarts in 7500 miles. I do have alot of black soot as well. I am getting my oil changed this week at my indy. I will hope the consumption goes to zero after this first oil change. Keep you posted!

Another data point, my 4S DFI has not used any oil between changes, now with 12,000 miles including track days. Changes at 5,000 miles or so.

A few things to consider:

Be careful adding oil. The oil level gauge seems to vary depending on hot hot the engine is. Do not add oil unless the level is 2 bars down. At that point, add only 1/4 liter (or quart). Drive the car and check again after at least 20 minutes of driving.

If you overfill the oil, consumption goes up for some reason and you can see where that leads. At my first oil change, my dealer over filled the oil. This resulted in "check oil level warnings". Maybe my dealer is not the only one to make this mistake? Reduced the oil level and everything was fine for another 5,000 miles or so.

Mine seems to have settled in at 1/2 quart per 5000 miles, basically minimal consumption. I'm due for another change in the next week or so and haven't added any since the last change. I'm doing it every 5000 miles as well. Dealership did the first two changes, but I'm getting my hands dirty for this one. Currently 14600 miles on the odometer

Perhaps we can all get our names on an email to send to the company? My serivice manager mentioned to me once that it might make sense to relay this. Sometimes recalls happen when people complain in numbers.

I just hit 15k miles on my '09 C2S. +14.5 quarts and still counting. Just ordered another 12 quarts from Amazon which I hope will last me through twelve more months at which point I am hoping to use the excessive oil burning as my ticket to talk my wife into getting back into a gt3.

On the other hand, outside of the oil consumption, the car has been flawless.

2009 Carrara S Cab. 1 quart every 500 miles. This is not acceptable to me. the car is gone. The owners manual for 2009 and 2010 997.2 state 1.6 quarts every 622 miles is acceptable oil consumption. That equals 1 quart every 389 miles, or 1/4 quart every 97 miles. If this is what German engineering is all about, it's not for me.

Do you usually do short trips? Did you drive a longer trip yesterday? If you answer affirmatively, it can be that during short trips the oil is absorbing moisture and keeping the level constant. On a longer the moisture evaporated and the level came down.

Very true. I am convinced that many people (not all) tend to overfill their engines constantly and the problem feeds on itself.

'07 C2S with 13,500 miles. Only owned and driven it for last 1,000 miles. Oil level went down by one bar after about 600 miles, and it is still there. Not enough data to draw any firm conclusions yet. BTW, I measure the oil every single morning before I set out, during the 5 seconds it takes to get my seat belt on and garage door up. Possibly dumb question: Not knowing how the measuring device works, I wonder if there is such a thing as using it too often or wearing it out?

When I did my first oil change at 2500 miles I was down one bar from full. 1000 miles later I have added +/- .2 liters. I do a lot of short city driving and so far am very pleased with my oil consumption. My M5 guzzled oil, and gas.
