Default Where do I get an oil cannister removal tool?

Parts guy and Suncoast says Porsche has not made a tool for the 2009 models.

When I asked him how the dealership changes oil on the 2009 models, he was not sure.

He said some customers had bought the 996 tool, only to return them when they did not work.

Unless I'm mistaken, the canester for the 2009 models accepts a standard size socket. I'm not sure what size, as I usually just try out a few laying in my tool chest until I get one that fits, but no special tool for me.

If you have a 997.2 (2009-2010), the oil filter is at the top of the engine and all you need is a 36 mm socket, not the tool. Discussion of the oil change procedure can be found here:

A pretty good summary is available about post 22 and later posts within the thread show photos of the procedure.

The p/n on mine is P-72192040 if you Google that, it should take you to Eagle Day and you can buy one there.

Thanks - things got clarified.

Oil cannister is on top of engine, not bottom.

Simple socket now used to unscrew cannister - special tool not needed anymore.

"Oil change kit" for $17.95 includes - green gasket for filter, aluminum washer for drain plug, + filter.

Because there's very little torque involved, you can also try using a large Crescent Wrench. Make sure it's tightened down on the hex head.

No tool needed, as stated its a standard hex socket... I'd recommend a 6-sided one that matches exactly, not one with larger numbers of cuts as they apply pressure in a different way to the plastic filter housing.

By the way, if anyone needs a filter housing tool (for a 997.1); I've got one that I mistakenly ordered that suncost wants a restocking fee on. PM me if interested.
