Default What is that beep when I first start off?

My '07 C2S recently started issuing a beep - more like a chime, really - when I first launch in the morning, even though I have already secured my sea tbelt. It does not do it at subsequent starts, e.g., from a stop light, just when I first launch. I couldn't find any clues in the owners manual via the index. Can anyone fill me in? Thanks in advance for a solution or any leads.

Service, seatbelt, door, gas, and the speed are the only things I can think of that would make it beep. I say bring it by the dealership, they may be able to tell you without even taking a look.

How cold is it where you live?

It doesn't get that cold down here in Houston, but you'll hear a chime when the temperature transitions down to near freezing as a warning about potentially icy conditions. Take a look at the outside temp and see if that has anything to do with it.

In my car I found Hans, a German dwarf they'd put in the trunk. They'd given him a little bell at the factory and told him when he needed something to ring it. He wanted beer and wurst.

I would agree that this is your beep. After my car leaves the warmth of the garage it will beep when the temp reading goes thru 37 degrees.

I read that 37F is when ice can form on bridges - not in the 997 manual, but in the BMW 550i manual - I was not aware that this car chimes at 37F. Gotta pay more attention.

When mine rings he usually wants some Deutchmarks... usually about $150 for labour on an oil change. Last time I told him that unless it was a 6' blonde changing my oil naked that I'd do it myself.

Thanks everybody for all the helpful responses. I do not think it is an ice / temp warning, as I am in Los Angeles, unless ... one can change the threshold to a higher temp, like 50 degrees. If so, maybe I did so inadvertently when trying to figure out how to use the stalk for various inputs/outputs. I already once inadvertently changed the speed threshold, so maybe I did that again (and changed it to 1mph?). I will work my way through the possibilities you all put out there (richc, sadly, mine didn't come with the dwarf option), and report back when I've either figured it out or get stumped. Thanks again.

atr911,
Would you still do it naked if the temperature was below 37 degrees?
