What is that beep when I first start off?

Burning Brakes
if there is some kind of warning chime it will certainly appear on you control panel under the tacho.
Mine did that some time ago without showing any warnings, and then dissapeard as I drove. it was the speed limit reminder - someone was playnig with my PCM- and it was set to 5klms/h

the only beep I get when first starting is the parking brake. I have forgotten to release it on occasion and I definately get the beep! I have never gotten a beep below 37 on my Porsches. On the BMW's give a 37 'black ice' warning beep.

How cold is it where you live?
It doesn't get that cold down here in Houston, but you'll hear a chime when the temperature transitions down to near freezing as a warning about potentially icy conditions. Take a look at the outside temp and see if that has anything to do with it.

Are you sure that is what yours is related to? Is there a reference to this in the manual?

Problem solved. I went into the computer and found that one of the three speed alarms was set to zero (one of the possible solutions camhabib suggested). I unticked the box and that stopped the chime upon first setting out. Initially, I had logically ruled this out as the problem because I thought I would hear the chime again each time I set off from a stop light (not so much expected at stop signs since we don't really get down to 0 mph at stop signs here in CA). But didn't, though not sure why.
