I have the CTEK 3300 for my Optima battery and it works great. I don't know what the benefits of the 7002's 8 step charging vs. the 4 step charging of the 3300 are, but I have no complaints with the cheaper model. Both have desulphonation, and long term maintenance charging, and a cold weather charging mode. I also bought the accessory cigarette lighter adapter which makes leaving the car on the charger really simple (if the 997 has a live cigarette lighter like the 996 when the key is out).

has anyone answered the OP question of "pulse or float"?
the ctek 3300 doesnt include the cig plug ($10more). So one can get both from Amazon for 53+10= $63 shipped.
The P's at suncoast is $112 + battery clamps $12 + shipping.

I think the implied answer is that Porsche sells the CTEK, so whatever it does is probably what Porsche recommends for normal maintenance. The CTEK 7002 does both, but at twice the cost. If I were buying today, I'd probably opt for the extra features in the 7002.

I picked up the CTEK 3300 from Amazon a couple weeks ago. I also got a spare set of quick-connect cords ($6) for my Land Cruiser. When I'm driving one, I'm not driving the other. Anyway, in the summer, the LC battery is usually dead right about the time I buy some furniture.
I bolted the 1/4" cords to the battery terminals. This way I can pop the hood and connect. I wouldn't use the clamps for long term use -- too easy for a clamp to fall off and ground against something metallic.
