Lightbulb DIY: Hardtop Stand (Under $60)

I needed a "temporary solution for my new hardtop and just could not justify spending $400+ on a "temporary" solution for a hardtop stand so I made one myself out of 1" PVC. (My end goal is to redo my hoist I use for the jeep for the Porsche but it looks like EZ-TOP has gone out of business as their phone number and email, is no longer vaild... Anyone have an EZ-Top Hoist they like to sell?)

Thought I'd share in case anyone else was looking for an alternative. (all parts came from Lowes)...

Glad I got my E Z Top when I did. Perhaps we could reverse engineer it for those still in need of a hoist.

Let's do that. I also found the EZ Top's website had been taken down for "reconstruction" some time ago, but no sign of life for a while now.

That would we awesome!! We would need a diagram (or picture) with measurements and lots of pictures of bends/angles/joints/etc..

I can look into finding a machine shop to see what they can fabricate...

I'll take a look at the components that went into it. Most are all common items. Only the motor would have to be researched to find a suitable substitute for.

It's intentionally geared slow to give you ultimate control.

That looks pretty good is it sturdy ? Do you have a photo of how the top fits on it. I just ordered a Turbo S Cab. and ordered a Hard Top also. O own a sheet metal company so I was thinking of making one out of Alum Tubing. Yours looks about like what I had in mind. I have until Mid June so I wasn't in a huge hurry but you photos have the wheels turning now.

I am assuming the back goes down on base with Top up?

Slightly OT here, but before you part with your Targa, can you post a couple of photos of it? I've never seen one in that color. I'll be it is a pretty car. (I'm a former Targa owner).

Default Targa Photos

Targa Photo's
I ordered Turbo S in Ice Blue Malachite was not a color for that Model maybe wishing I had order with a color to match. One of the only unknowns of my Turbo S order.

I have a offer for Trade from Dealer but he has stated he would help me sell (run thru him) So I could save on sales tax same if I trade.

Sorry, I didn't take any photos when I was testing it and Hardtop is currently on car. I will try to remember to take pics & post once weather get's better & top comes off.

The stand is study (i wouldn't jump on it.. lol) but study enough for the hardtop. I did brace & renforce a few key areas to ensure stability. This was my end result but this was also Rev 3.0.1 (lol)....

Note:
1) All PVC is 1"
2) Lowes had PVC that had "thicker walls than Home Depot Stock.
3) Lowes carries locking Caster wheels with screw shaft, Home Depot didn't
4) For PVC cement I use "Heavy Duty" rated glue

Parts List:
(10) TEE
(6) Caps
(4) 2" Locking Caster Wheels with Screw Shaft
(4) Matching bolts for Caster Wheel Shaft
(1) 1" Foam Piping Insulation (with adhesive ends)
(1) 9' Clear Insulated cable (cut in two then used as "bracing", see pics)
(6) 2.5" Machine Screws with matching bolts (used to "secure" joints for vertical bracket top leans on)
(1.5) 1"x10' PVC Pipe

Dan,
That would be awesome if you would do that and take a ton of pics using a ruler next to angles etc. for size reference.

As far as the motor, I would just use my existing elctrical wench and use pulleys to "slow" down lift.
