Default My 4 year old niece paints better than this...

On a honda civic this might pass but I'm going to leave the painting of calipers from Porsches to the experts from now on....

Broke the cardinal rule of DIY, don't bite off more than you can chew.

I've done this several times, you have to use the spray and then put two or three coats of heat resistant clear on it as well. Let it dry, and buff it till it shines. They look like factory.

WTS?! Did you paint it right on the rag? Could of at least fabricated some sort of jig to hold it from the inside. Looks like a repainted 1980 caliper that wasn't cleaned up right.

Sand it back down, and do it right. Really, this is not too hard to DIY, just go SLOWLY and follow the right steps, they'll be looking good in no time.

Ha ha. Well no. It was painted on the table. I think I'm gonna try to spray it after I clean it up with some sand paper and I'll sand the next ones before i start them. The other option is to see my wheel guy about getting it professionally done.

I'll call him tomorrow. I'm not much of an artiste.

Better mask those holes the retaining pin goes through you'll never get the pin in without driving it in and either the pin or the caliper will suffer and more than the paint.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I had to drive the pin out when I removed it, should it have come out easy?

What Eric said.

Also, you can sand and re-coat a few times until you get it just right. Don't let too much time go between coats. IOW, You want to smooth blemishes in the paint, not sand it all off. It will be worth it and it's not that much more work.

You CAN get good results with the right paint and a brush. I painted the calipers on my 996 a few years back. I did not use the stiff btush that came with the Dupli-Color paint because that brush is too stiff. I bought a 1" bristle brush from Sears for $1.00. I left the capipers on the car and applied a thin coat to each caliper and kept working my way around the car. I ended up appluing 3 thin coats to each caliper.

Here are two links showing the results of my work. Sorry for the grainy pics, the camera I had back then was not very good.

Preparation is the key, when I look at your caliper it 'feels' like you did not properly clean it, rush the process and did not have a proper holding set up.

When I did mine I got a 2x4 and some wires to hold them in place and took a my time... While I don't have any pictures they look stock after I was done.

Yup. Most people don't know that doing things efficiently and getting good results means 80% of the work occurs before you even handle a paint brush. Should be something they teach in High School.
