Perhaps you are not aware that Porsche is first and foremost an engineering consulting firm. Weissach is today's core to that activity. Weissach works under contract for VW, Audi and many others... and new stuff often appear first in those cars. You, more than anyone, should appreciate that.
Not worried, would buy the 2nd year of any of those new technologies.

FSI was introduced a few years back by VW/Audi and many more, much earlier than Porsche, so its no excuse. Usually all latest technologies trickle down from higher end cars/models down, Porsche being late into FSI/DFI is not really being ahead of the game (like 959 was at the time). A lot more cars had Direct Injection before Porsche:

Also, PDK is ZF engineered and not made by Porsche, while for instance Audi has developed their own.

EXACTLY MY POINT! They first introduced in the 80s, same time as 959, and then stopped innovating much and focused on Boxster, Cayenne, etc... instead of developing bleeding edge technologies for their sports cars.

All I am saying is that I miss the innovative culture of the old Porsche! They still make a heck of a great car!

Here is another 959 I found in OC last year, in same price range.

Edit: Sorry, it is no longer on the Tru-Speed site. But here are a couple of mediocre photos I took in the show room.

Love it in silver a lot more than the red. Wish some of its design will be available in next gen. of 911!

I agree with ADias, probably won't ride as good of as 997 today, but for sure it's an incredible piece of engineering!!! 0-60 at 3.7 seconds back in the 80s is INSANE!

Totally a collectors item, Jay Leno/Jerry Seinfeld/Bill Gates kinda car! If I had that much money, it'd be also in my garage.

This car was on consignment by Truspeed and last I talked to them still available for sale "for the right price". Very cool car that I nearly freaked out when I was allowed to just sit in.

I lust for a 959 but my lust aint no secret!

I have to agree.

My two cents: I have zero desire to own one.

I guess if I were into collecting cars it would be a "must have."

Gee, I can't believe what I just said!

^ I agree.

I'm a Porsche fanatic, but it is pretty far down the list of must-haves for my imaginary car collection.

It's an important part of Porsche history. It gave a view of the future...

I appreciate and respect the car, but it doesn't stir my soul. I have enjoyed reading wayne's restoration diary, though.

Now, a 550 Spyder on the other hand.... That's a collector's car that makes my heart flutter.

It was one of my dream cars back in the day, along with a Ferrari F40. I was working in Seattle at the time Bill Gates got his and was green with envy. However, as it was 1) way out of my price range and 2) not even officially available in the US, I quickly forgot about it.

When the 993 came out, I actually thought it was a better looking car than the 959. And today, it's really nothing more than a good memory to me. But I still love it for what it represents, just as I love other landmark classic Porsche road cars and race cars.
