It was explained to me that changing the parameters in the ECU will cause parts of the engine to run hotter and or cooler than other and could ultimately damage the engine and Porsche will not be held responsable for a car they engineered that has been changed by someone that does not have all the design information about the car. Porsche has the ECU designed to handle many many issues you can run into driving on the street. I was also told that flashing and or replacing the ECU will void the entire cars warranty because the ECU controls many things on the car besides the timing and air fuel ratio.
Total truth, all of it. With some quirks - most of that stuff above is up to service manager to keep his mouth shut. They do want you to come to them for service, so it is a mutual relationship - they close eyes on _some_ of your mods that are not directly related to core components - like intake, cats, etc but they do draw a line - I was told directly - headers and ECU.

Headers diameter is directly affecting pressure in cylinders and that affects million of things inside of the engine and all you said about ECU was same I have heard. Plus - it is not a dealer who makes decision to cover it or not if your engine blows - they ship it away to 'somewhere' together with ECU. As I was told.

So there is some risk in anything, as usual.

Just my personal preference. The Tubi is; however, quite a bit lighter than the PSE and a work of art. But it aint cheap either.

Porsche mailed out winter savings coupons earlier this year (perhaps to PCA members?). It was 20% off. I used that coupon to purchase the X51 headers and PSE exhaust through Suncoast Porsche in Florida. With the coupon my PSE exhaust was $1,890.

Unfortunately, I think that winter program ended on 3/31. My suggestion is to call around. Suncoast in Florida, Sunset in OR and Boardwalk in Texas are usually very aggressively priced (at least compared to what my local dealers charge). And as a benefit to me (I live in S. CA with an 8.75% tax rate) there's no sales tax in Florida or Oregan so while I had to pay $80 to have my exhaust and headers shipped and wait a week... it's a lot cheaper than the tax I would have paid (even if I could find the same prices in CA... which I couldn't).
Damn, wish I didn't miss that coupon! A few days late

I know all of those folks, so will do some shopping around but I don't think I can get close to what you paid.

BTW, where did you install and for how much?

My PSE and headers are on the UPS truck as I type. They're supposed to be here today.

I'm having a local Porsche specialist (Hergesheimer) do the install along with my 2 year service/brake flush.

My install is not a good proxy; however, as I'm using a coupon, PCA discount and my install is a bit custom (I'm not hooking the PSE into the DME, instead going right through the Carnewal solution). It's a lot, lot cheaper to do it that way and it obfuscates the need to use the sport button to get the "loud" setting and eliminates the set speed tone change.

One could also do the ashtray switch.

So, you're not gonna use Sport button to engage/disengage? or doing it via another switch?

Correct. I'm not using the sport button. I personally do not like the "enhanced" throttle of the sport function for street driving. Moreover, I don't like the way the factory installed PSE cuts out at certain speeds.

Same here, I don't like the sport throttle. However, I still wanna turn on/off, so I might go with that remote on/off switch in addition to sports functionality.
