Default Using battery charger - how do you route your cable?

In connecting the battery charger to your cigarette lighter, how are you running the charger cable from the outside of the car to the inside... through a cracked window or simply closing the door on it? What have you found to be the best way?

Thanks

Just run the thin wire through the bottom of the door.
This works very well.

Do you then close the door completely on it?

Cracked window for mine. I have the smart charger sitting on top of my garage door opener which is centered above my car. I do so b/c there just so happens to be an available wall plug.

Yes. I close the door on the wire.
I make sure there is a little slack on the interior side
so the door doesn't pull the wire away from the outlet.

If you run your finger along the rubber strip at the bottom of the door, you should find a small gap towards the rear of the door? I usually try to run the wire through that. That said, I agree with others that the door will close just fine wherever you have the wire.

I don't like leaving any opening to the car for fear of some animals taking up residence, mice in particular. I have never seen a mouse in my garage (we have cats), but my neighbours have them....

Mark.

I run the wire for the battery maintainer across the door sill with plenty of slack. I also put a mouse trap near each tire and plug in one of those electronic mouse repellers nearby.

I hardwired directly to the battery, through the front compartment to an area just below the front right bumper. Connect there. no pinching wires or leaving the window cracked. Easy access on and off.

Center console plug insertion. Use the slam-on-door method. If concerned about temporary malformation of weatherstrip, do it on passengers side. If there's any resulting sound you won't be bothered. Put red ribbons on it so you remember it's there when you drive off. I drove off and learned that trick.

I go out through the sunroof in "tilt" mode -- up to the garage ceiling.

The 996's have two indents in the rubber strip at the bottom of the door - one near the center, one around 1/3 of the way up towards the rear of the door. They are specifically there for this purpose. Not sure if the 997 has the same indents, but it wouldn't surprise me. Took me around 6 months to locate mine - I didn't know Porsche designed the part that way until I really looked for them.

I have looked for an area on the seal like this and have not found
the 997 to have one.

The wire is so thin, no harm will result from running the wire through
the bottom seal.

It's a balmy 22 degrees and sunny here in the Midwest. It's
time to unplug the girl and take a little spin.

Great info. Easy enough to verify but the cigarette lighter is always on and suitable for this too, correct?

In my neck of the woods, Dallas, it's usually warm, but since my car was delivered 1/10 (the day after a few days in the teens froze and burst a pipe in my house...that was fun) it has been almost consistently wet and cold. This past Thursday we had the second deepest snowfall on record -- almost a foot. The weight of the snow has taken trees down all over the place including my property. I have been able to drive it twice.
