How many of you 997 owners secretly desire a Boxster Spyder? I do.

Apparently you can add the radio and AC as a free option at time of order.
Something else I read is that Porsche expects it to bring a lot of people into the showrooms, though they don't expect to sell many. People will come in to see the fancy ribbon door handles but will probably walk away in a standard Boxster or Boxster S instead.
I just think it would be a fun 3-rd car.

As a GT3 owner, I think this was a fantastic move for Porsche. In fact, this is to me the only option for someone looking at a Boxser or Coxster (Coupe-Boxster, Cayman). I might even consider this if I was looking for a regular Carrera, but compared to a Carrera S with PASM Sport woudl put it second on my list. Let's see: lighter, lower/stiffer sports suspension, sport buckets, aluminum doors, door panels right out of the RS and LSD all standard. The only things I would change if I could we be to have a removeable hard top instead of the removeable soft top and some more ponies from a Carrera based engine. Still a fantasic job Porsche.
Also, you can get A/C (with auto temp control option), cup holders (no cost option) and a stereo (with sound plus option). Even adding these, you are still 150 lbs less than a Cayman S.

The +10 hp you would not notice, but -177 lbs is something you will feel even on the street. At 2800 lbs, the Boxster Spyder is about the same weight as the S2000, but with ~80 more horses. The power of lightness is often under estimated in this age of bigger is better.

Problem is the 177 pounds comes with a "price". No real roof. No AC. That would really limit MY USE for the car to almost never - I'd hardly ever use it. I'd only buy it really for the track. For the street, I'd much rather have my 997.2S coupe and if I wanted to add a roadster - I'd get a regular Boxster S with a roof and AC. Sure it'd be heavier but i could actually use it. (I am considering this BTW )
