Default CarreraS vs Carrera

I am currently looking at an 05 997 (nonS). Appears to be a great car. Is the color I like (Midnight Blue/Nav/35,000 miles/Turbo Wheels/clean car fax/all service records/has factory warrantee remaining/getting PPI this week) I am just wondering if I should hold out for an S? Seems like most people has the S version. I originally was looking at 996's due to my budget, but after looking at several of them, I noticed the 997 has much more room and I fit in it so much better (I am 6'6"). Naturally, I am now at the top of my budget by looking at 997's. I am ok with this as long as I get a straight car. (Going with the thought of getting the best Porsche I can afford.) Anyone have any comments on choosing the nonS? FYI, I have never tracked a car and this would be my first porsche. I would like to do some driving school type stuff eventually.

Thanks for your replies! Looking forward to joining the "club."

You answered your own question: "I am now at the top of my budget by looking at 997's". The Carrera is a great car anyway.

Both cars, S and non-S are GREAT CARS! Better than 95% of the cars on the roads today.

If this car has the options you want, is the right colour, right condition, right price, and if you don't track, I'd say BUY IT, you won't regret it.

You'll be happy with either S or non-S. But whatever you buy, definitely take it to the track at least once. If you don't you're really missing out on a huge part of why these cars are so amazing.

Don't believe the naysayers the non S is a far better car!
Especially if the choice is a Arctic Silver S or Maritime Blue non S. No brainer really.

Buy the best you can afford. If I had to do it all over again I would have got the GT3! Not much difference in driving feel between S and base carrera for a regular dude like me.

Swing by the Wake Zone in Apex between 8 & 9 AM tomorrow, where a bunch of us Pcar guys gather. Good place to gather first hand information.

The Wake Zone Coffee Shop
6108 Old Jenks Road
Corner of Davis Drive & Old Jenks Rd
Apex , NC 27502
(919) 267-4622

See you then.

Until about 9.30 (I think - I'm newer to the group) and then a drive normally follows.
Large thread on the 996 board but no specific details posted as yet.

I bought the S because I don't want to wonder what I am missing everytime I pass one.

Although I do wonder what I am missing whenever I pass a GT3, but good thing they are pretty rare on the street.

<<<<< I just bought my Carrera and will be more than happy with it! The S would be nice, 4S even nicer but I had a budget and stuck to it plus I nailed a great deal. Normal Carrera's are still pretty darn quick having driven my mates its definately enough performance to get you in trouble.

You should be able to grab yours for between $40k and 42k...

Buy it!

Pfft. The "4" cars are to satisfy the marketing department, not the engineers. Why do you want a Porsche with training wheels?
