GT3 wheels question again (997.2)
Saw the thread bellow but I have the same question regarding the 997.2
I have a '09 CS2 and would like to fit the wheels from the new GT3.
Do they fit?
Are they any lighter? (dont wont to go down the non OEM road..)

Guys
I dont get it. For the new Turbo Porsche offers both wheels one with centerlock and one with the traditional mechanism. So i assume they are somehow interchangeable?
I am in love with the new GT3 wheel design...

Yes, they actually will fit your car. But as everyone has pointed out, the wheel attachment system is different.
In addition to the wheels themselves, you'll also have to buy the rest of the parts to convert over to the centerlock setup, as well as the socket & torque multiplier to remove or install the wheels. Porsche is offering these parts now as upgrades for the 997 MK1 GT3/RS, & is running ads in the various Porsche magazines for them. No idea what the cost would be, but I assure you, they're not cheap.
Also keep in mind that once you've converted to centerlocks, your current 5 bolt wheels won't work on your car anymore.
As far as lightness, I wouldn't expect much weight savings, if any. I'd bet a set of Champion wheels would be lighter & cheaper.

Or is it not so bad in reality as I think it is? But I doubt it.

I think a more effective, less costly way would be aftermarket wheels. I weighed my Champion RG5 wheels before installing them on my GT3. RG5 weights were without wheel sensors or center caps.:
------------RG5-----Stock GT3
Front------20.06-------23.5
Rear------21.25-------31.0
(stock GT3 weights I used were posted here on Rennlist, I don't know if they included the wheel sensors & center caps or not)
As you can see, the stock 2007 GT3 wheels were a good bit heavier, especially the rears. And as I've heard, the RG5 isn't Champion's lightest wheel.
Not sure what the weights for your wheels are, but you might look into that. Just something else to think about.
