Default Locked vs Unlocked and battery usage

I read in a recent thread that leaving the car unlocked will draw on the battery more than a locked car. This doesn't make any sense to me as you would think the alarm system would use additional power. Can someone elaborate on this??

I suggest that you read the owners' manual. The active alarm system monitors the doors, luggage compartment, engine compartment, glove compartment, passenger compartment, and so on. Seem like a lot of monitoring--will take power to do this. Recall, too, that the remote control standby function switches off after 7 days, to save power. Take a snow-day, and read the manual that Porsche carefully prepared for your car.

With respect... read the manual. An unlocked car draws more power than a locked one.

An unlocked car without the key on the ignition uses the least amount of current from the battery.

If locking the car in your garage for a long time I'd suggest leaving the window open just enough to get your hand in there to open it if something goes wrong battery-wise over time. You never know.

Battery Maintainer - then it doesn't matter. Unless you are talking long term parking at the airport - I'd go for locked in that case, regardless of power consumption - and I'd keep the windows up.

Interesting...I've always understood otherwise. I conducted my own experiment a while back (from sheer boredom) using the battery maintainer. Though unscientifically, I found it took less time to recharge the battery from an unlocked car than a locked one. With the maintainer unplugged, I left the car unlocked for 48 hours, then recharged it to full. I then compared it to being locked for 48 hours.

The owners manual which states that you should lock your car to minimize drawing down the battery.

Interesting. Then why does the computer disable the remote locking mechanism after 7 days to conserve the battery?

Where in the manual is that stated? Not on any 997 manual I have seen.

Not there. Easier to verify if you have the PDF. Removing the key from the ignition is the only, and often repeated, procedure.
