Default Can 997.2 PSE be retrofitted to 997.1?

Just basically wondering if 997.2 PSE be retrofitted to 997.1? I like the new look of the 997.2 PSE (while I actually don't like the rear of 997.2).

I believe he's asking if his 997.1 exhaust can be retrofitted to the 997.2 PSE

No, the other way around!

I think the 997.2 NEW Sport exhaust looks very cool, and was wondering if I could install it on my 997.1 (non-PSE)?

I don't know about the entire exhaust, but if the tips on the .2 PSE are removable they may be a fit for your .1 pipes.

Given the whole exhaust setup is different on the 2 models, I can't imagine that the 997.2 PSE would fit. If they were interchangeable, wouldn't Porsche have just re-used the 997.1 PSE? Perhaps the OP only means the tips, which are the only part you see. ie, do the 997.2 PSE tips fit the 997.1 PSE muffler pipes? Just guessing here, as original question is confusing.

I would strongly suggest you not even consider such a switch. Exhaust systems are literally tuned to the engine, and there is such a substantial difference between the 997.1 and .2 engines that you could be opening a large can of worms. Not only may you get a sound that is disagreeable to you, it may also rob you of torque. But then again, it's your engine.

Got it! So, if I like the look of the tips, just gotto change those as they may fit...

Thanks

That should be relatively easy to determine. If they do fit, I expect you'll need to get ready for a shock when you see the price of the tips. BTW, many of think the 997.2 PSE tips look like foreskins.

By know means I am an expert on this, however, I have ordered the PSE for my '09 C4S or 997.2. I asked the question could I just order the mufflers and use the stock exhaust tips. The Porsche parts person said that you could do that with the PSE system for the 997.1 as different tips were interchangeable with the sport mufflers. However, in the 997.2 system, the tips are a component of the the PSE and can not be interchanged nor can other tips be used with the Sport Exhaust at this time. The tips and the exit pipes from the sport mufflers are a single unit. Also, he stated the Sport tips have two different sized outlet pipes that effect the way the system works. He stated the reason the new PSE is so much more expensive than the old PSE is that the tips are required and they cost approximately $500, and I am pretty sure he said each, themselves! By the time you add the mufflers and the pneumatics and switch gear, you are looking at approximately $2500 for the whole set up.

So if the info I have is correct, to answer alexb76's question, no the 997.2 PSE will not fit the 997.1 and apparently, the 997.2 tips will not fit either.

THe parts guy is not an expert either. The 997.1 PSE tips are not interchangeable with the regular 997.1 tips, because the PSE tips are clamped on the outside (larger) exhaust pipe and accommodate the 2 exhaust pipe exits from each muffler. The clamp on the regular tips is centered on the tips to clamp on the single pipe from the muffler. And the excuse for the expense is bogus, since the 997.1 PSE has its own special tips too, and as usual with any Porsche exhaust tip, they aren't cheap either.
I have found that many parts guys are pretty ignorant and you can't count on their "advice". Better advice is available on these forums.

keninirvine, I couldn't agree with you more. That is why I made sure to clarify that I was giving second had info. I have found that I will research things on these forums and then I usually end up teaching people at the dealership what I found out. Thank goodness we have this resource. Having seen the PSE mufflers and the two exiting exhaust pipes, what you said makes perfect sense. Thanks for the info!
