Hey saw this one in my area online and visited the dealer (was closed) but was intrigued. Last Carrera I had was 2005 Carrera base 6sp which I sold in March 09 and obtained an 09 Boxster which is a great car but I do miss my Carrera. Any thoughts on this vehicle? Good deal or not? Contemplating making an offer but they also have a 2007 Carrera S for $62k also which is intriguing as well.

Not a bad price... that's a few $k off what the car would bring if new. It has a few thousand miles, but then it has the cpo extended warranty. It's a much better deal than an '07 S for $62, which is awfully high.

That's funny I just got a 997 and I miss my Boxster, although it's not yet sold. I think I miss the familiarity of its handling characteristics and its top down driving pleasure. I’m sure I’ll get accustomed to the 997 handling and to address drop down driving I’m already planning a Boxster Spyder purchase in about 3 years!
As for the price on that 09 I’d say it’s great, although the car is rather ordinary in regards to spec.

I agree with both of the above posts- nice price, basic options---but a great color (although I am not a big fan of the Sand Beige unless it has full leather).

What is funny is hearing you all talk about your 997 v Boxster experience. I have been struggling between an 06 987 S and an 06 997 S and think I will pull the trigger on one of them this week. I have acutally been leaning to the Boxster and I now feel a bit better about it!

07 S is a real bad deal. That car is a stripper and the 09 has the update, 2k miles, and effectively the same price.

That 07 should be mid 50's. The 09 seems like a keeper.

You can probably get the 09 brand new around 68-70 just for a comparison, but you're right with the CPO is a pretty good deal

CPO is the better deal, but I agree that it's plain jane on the options list. As you probably know, options don't add a lot of value to a used car so you want as many as possible in the used market.

Never was much as far as getting a hugely optioned car. Last 997 was an 05 Carrera with PASM, 6sp, and Nav and that was really it. Added 19" wheels myself and ipod integration but really have wanted ipod, Sat Nav, Sat radio for my daily driver. For the 07 CS what would be a reasonable price/offer seeing that I just got my 09 Boxster in July 09. I'd probably loose a little on trade although its fairly well optioned (speed yellow, leather, sport steerin, sport seats, PASM, cornering Xenons, and 19" sport classic wheels). So don't get me wrong...its a nice car but I just miss my 997 as far as drive style, space (I can stuff the kids 8y/o and 10 y/o) still in the back of a 997 when needed and have trunk space too. However the top down driving while nice...just doesn't fully do it for me as I guess opening a sunroof in a 997. My prev dealer said that I could push the Boxster to the limits of my driving abilities on a public road while I would never be able to reach the limits of the 997 and drive it as well at the limit; which I kinda agree.

Anyway what would you guys start to offer with both cars considering a trade of my 09 Boxster? Or how many of you guys would sit tight and keep the 987? Seems to be more than a few of you guys going from 997's to Boxsters and I am curious to why?

I think that the bigger issue here for you to wrestle with (in terms of $$) is what kind of loss you will be taking on a 6 month old but now 1 MY old non-S Boxster. Not knowing what you paid, etc, but trade in for the specs you mentioned is probably $40-42K at best.

Enjoy the Boxster for another year and then trade!

Paid roughtly $62k on the Boxster which was optioned out to about $64k sticker with all the options on the car. Forget to add it is one of the few 09's which you were able to get/order with the new LSD and a few other goodies so it is as my dealer said "a more sport and enthusiast oriented" car than the base care with options most commonly seen. I had some neg equity on my wife's trade which is why it wasn't cheaper...so I'd be back in the same range/situation 6 months out it seems if I traded back up to the 997.

In that respect would it be better to look at the 07 car for a more fair price? If so what would that be/suggestions? From an equipment standpoint would that be much of a change/issues? The 09 car just seemed like such a deal/good price that I figured if I looked at the 07 then why not the 09 as they are at the same price point for the most part.

OR should I maintain the Boxster as said for 12-4 mos and look back at this then? My former dealer says I have not driven the Boxster enough to have learned it and enjoy it but WTF does that mean? Am I too spoiled as a former Carrera (996 and 997) owner to become enamored with the Boxster or appreciate it or what is going on here?

You have a nicely optioned Boxster but the options won't return much at trade in time so you might as well enjoy them for a while longer.

Between the two the 09 is the keeper. Now, an 07 C2 in the high $40's, that's another story.

I always miss my Boxsters but I will get another one soon. That 09 is not a bad deal since it will CPO'd.

The s is the better deal. Nobody wants the c2 in two years time (thats when you probably would want to sell it looking at ur history). hell nobody wants it right now. The price does not matter, interest rates are zero. the c2 will end up being way more expensive then the s.
