Here is where they now mount the AM Rod antenna.

Unless there's a compelling reason to listen to faraway AM stations... Why would one want a hole on the fender and risk potential corrosion? A long time ago antennas were relocated as embedded wires in the windshield exactly for that reason.

I know these are a no charge option but it seems that going backwards to an AM antenna seems extreme, unless you just know you can't get good reception where you travel. There are always other options when out of AM reception range today.
