Sorry, slightly off topic: I don't recall reading about you getting another 911, Riley. What'd you get? Let's see the pics!
P.S. Did you have fun in the Cayenne forum?

Stan
Check the date, Riley started this thread in 2009. I believe he's thinking about the 991 now.

On topic: My 997.1 is still rattle free and tight as a drum.

I have the sunroof interior panel that slaps the underlying part when hitting bumps - sucks.

My passenger door was replaced after it was damaged when a drunk driver ran me off the road - rattled like hell. I was about to take it in when I noticed it was the seat belt rattling against the seat - DOH!

Dealer cured a rattle from drivers side door with some high performance grease on door striker. Tech said a customer figured it out after weeks of trying and searching.

I hope those with rattles can have them resolved. One tip I would suggest is to apply gummi pfledge to the rubber seals around the doors and windows. You'd be surprised the number of noises that dry rubber can make. The product used to be (still?) is available at the BMW parts counter, and is now rebranded as a Wurth's product.

Just wanted to report the following rattles found and solved:

1) Right, mid and lefts side dash speaker grille. Remove and apply felt.
2) Sports Chrono. Remove and apply felt. A bit tricky.
3) Rear speaker grilles. Remove and apply felt.
4) Key chain. Seriously.

Now I only have the odd ones appearing on random days.

I'd rather live with the rattles than have a dealer tech tear my car apart. But then I'm not as **** as some of you based on a read of this thread.

My rattle was the targa roof switch assembly in the center console near the handbrake lever.

The switches rest in a hole in the console.. and they sizing of those switches to console need to be precise. In the cold winter months, on very rough concrete interstate, the vibrations caused rattle form the center console. To diagnose took out the ash tray and all things in the center compartment and rattles continued. Pressing down on the console stopped the rattle - so I knew it was something rattling against the center console.

Took it to the dealer with that info, and they replaced the switches. No problems yet, but the cold winter just got here, so I've yet to drive it on the same rough interstate to validate the fix.

i honestly did not mind them doing it, took a few days but everything was perfect after.

my new cayenne had a rattle in the door on my drive home from dealer (1100 miles)... they fixed it in 2 hours and i've been so happy since..

then again, small noises bother me all the time... and prone to migraines.. so maybe im just a baby/pain in the ***.

Rattles used to drive me crazy in any car until I started losing hearing in my right ear. Dx- otosclerosis, got a new right prosthetic Stapes bone (smallest bone in the body) and I heard great for about 10 years. Now I can't hear again from my right ear but the upside is... I can't hear my wife yapping away when I drive. Don't think I'll get it fixed this time :-)

has anyone been good enough to eliminate them? (ive heard from another member he was maybe bringing his car to dealer for them to fix under warranty) is this actually a warranty issue they will fix?????

i have severe rattle under the steering column, and what seems like behind the cluster, another one pass side back seat side panel, another C pillar pass side...

very frustrating especially after a hectic day when u wanna relax and the rattles just annoy you more.
automatic - they got you!
