Default Never saw so much brake dust in my life!

The car's great. Nearly 600 miles so far, and I love it.

I drove through a couple rainstorms last week and wanted to wash it over the weekend. The brake dust, especially up front, was un-be-liev-a-ble. It's like what my old Honda would pick up in 3000 miles between washes.

What works for this? When I was in college, detailing cars at a dealership, we used a BMW brake parts cleaner (from the parts dept) that was safe for the BMW and Porsche alloy rims. This was 1992. Is there anything like this out there? We'd spray it on, it would dissolve the brake dust, and we'd just hose it off.

Is there anything like this now?

As much as I love this car, I'm not too crazy about spending 20 minutes on my knees wiping the wheels off with a sponge, and following it with a moist rag to get what I missed.

Forgot to add: I'm taking it reealllly easy on the brakes until I have 1-2k on the clock. So it's really not my driving.

You could have done something about it when you ordered your car, but it's too late now! Just wax the wheels and stay on top of it.

I knew this was coming. I now see the PCCB option cost as $2k enhanced braking performance and $6k decreased dust. Amortized over the life of the car, I'm not getting paid much per hour to clean these wheels.

I have just over 500 miles, but the brake dust is not too bad in my case. Certainly not worse than my E46 M3.

I wash the car every Sunday and try not to accumulate anything in the Carrera Sports. How often do you clean the wheels?

Brake dust is a reality with high performance brakes. To mitigate this, wax the rims (after proper cleaning) with a good sealant polymer (Rejex or Klasse Sealant Glaze). Then routinely clean the rims with Swiffer Duster. With this method I can clean the 4 rims in 5 minutes and rarely have to wash them with soap and water.

If you need to wash the rims in the conventional way use the OEM wheel cleaner kit.

P.S. - Some say that soft braking releases more brake dust.

You have to stay on top of it, otherwise the brake dust will bake itself onto the rims and good luck getting off. I agree, its a pain in the butt; however,
I do like to see my rims shine, so I put up with the frequent chose of keeping them clean.

Cool

Sorry I dont have an answer on a fix, but my 2 cents with what I learned at the track. After I learned how incredibly fast our breaking sytem stops the car after a long straight, out-breaking everyone, I really dont mind the dust at all.

I've also heard of people using a product called Rejex, you apply it to a clean wheel and nothing is supposed to stick.

Haven't tried it personally, but i was planning on trying it this spring

This is from the Rejex website;

"RejeX won't keep brake dust from accumulating over time, but it does make wheels much easier to clean. Usually a good high pressure spray of water is sufficient to knock off brake dust. Plus RejeX leaves a wicked shine on both chrome and alloy wheels."

Was Rejex fairly easy to apply & wipe off?

YES, very easy. Though for best results, surface must be thoroughly clean, and cure time is 24 hours.

P21S Wheel Gel cleaner for really dirty wheels, then seal as mentioned in above posts.

Unless you're independently wealthy from cat stud fees like Edgy is, you can clean your own wheels and save $8K

The sad reality is that pads of today are much worse on iron rotors and themselves than they ever used to be. Suspect it to be the loss of asbestos in the formulation.
