Am I the only one whose heart skipped a beat when reading the thread title that says the car was "towed"?

I got the car back today and it feels like new again. The dealer replaced the HPFP and the coolant.

Also, the Porsche was towed, but taken to the dealer on a flatbed tow truck. Thanks,

I had a VERY similar experience last night with my 2009 C4S! Was driving on Wilshire Boulevard in Los Angeles when the engine died on me. There was 1300 MILES on the odometer. Check engine light went on, “engine emergency/take car to workshop” message on dashboard, etc. I have treated the car like a gem since I got it and was driving it relatively gently during the break-in period.

The dealership has it now and said that it was possible the car needed a “system update”. Waiting for more details. “System update”??? For $110,000, I need more reliability than this!

Would love to hear any thoughts or opinions, as I’m a first time Porsche owner.

It has nothing to do with a system upgrade - by system upgrade they are referring to the hardware portion. lol - I will bet it is your high pressure fuel pump - hey look at the bright side you will get free coolant replacement!

However, if this keeps happening I think Porsche should recall the vehicles and replace the HPFP before our 100k plus cars start breaking down all over Los Angeles! It is so embarrassing when an exotic vehicle is being pushed to the side of the road, due to a mechanical failure.

Hopefully Porsche will have sorted the HPFP failure as well as the excessive oil consumption and tailpipe soot by next year.

When I get word from Porsche service I will let you guys know their verdict. I hope it's something as easily fixed as the HPFP. Unfortunately Downtown Porsche of LA only has two loaner vehicles (!!!) so I am now cruising the streets in a 2008 Chevy Aveo from Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

It's hard to tell how widespread the HPFP failure problem is. I was the first 997.2 at my dealer to experience it. I don't think it is as endemic as the failures on the BMW N54 but the 997.2 has not been out as long.

Wanted to follow up on my earlier post about my 2009 C4S dying on the street the other night. The dealership (Porsche of Downtown LA) said DME and PDK both required software updates, which evidently accounted for the engine failure. Additionally, I told them the engine was slow starting during the few weeks leading up to the engine failure and they told me the HPFP needed to be replaced. Hopefully it's smooth sailing from here on out.

PS: The dealer ended up giving me a loaner. 2010 Cayenne with 7 miles on it. Nice enough car, but my girlfriend liked it much more than me.
