You could try to get the basic key out of one of the discounting dealers like Sunset in Portland, OR. But it will have to be matched up to the car and that will cost you more, again.

I think I paid about $320 including programming.

There should be a corn cob emoticon available for posts that discuss outrageous dealer pricing.

I replaced the physical part of the key (FOB and blank) for around $115, it will be $45 to cut the blank and another $100 to program the key. So I am out of $260 to replace the key...better than $500.

Man...sounds like the OP needs "keyless entry" on his next car.......Is that even a P-car option at this point?

I love the keyless entry idea. Have it on my other car and never have to fumble for the key. I doubt Porsche will do it though, greater chance for theft. On a GT3 thread, A GT3 was stolen out of a parking garage. Still a mystery on how the thief get in and out of the car and drove off. An electronic key, I can see, a physical key will be a lot tougher.

Adias, you are right, I lost my keyless fob also!! I travel quite often. I tend to hide my keys so my kid wouldn't find it,(Risky Business). I hid it too well and I can't find the keys my self. I once hid my watch and found it 3 years later when I tried to hide my key. LOL!!!

Good Day

Sounds like you have a kid problem, not a key problem. Start charging the kids for the replacement cost of the key that you loose because you cannot trust them not to take the key.

Keyless entry with a fingerprint or other biometric scanner, built into the handle, would be the only thing I could see as an option: lift the handle, that powers the scanner, it scans your fingerprints on the inside of the handle... and opens if authorized. Then you key in a pin on the PCM to unlock the starter, and engage the push-button start when ready. You always need a mechanical key to be able to open the door if the battery goes dead.

They are under control. It's more of Ucube's way of thinking, Absent minded!! Often it's fun to find a twenty in a pants pocket or a Rolex under stack of towels. This time I think It may have be thrown out with the trash when I stash the keys in the tissue box while we went on a cruise. The maid cleaned the garage. Anyway, $425 is the going rate for a replacement key.

I hid my removal back-up drive for my home computer at work in May just before I left on vacation. Hid it too well and had to buy a new one a month later. Finally found the original one last week. Now I'm waiting for $100 in pre-paid san francisco parking meter cards to show up.
