Default Interior wear- 06 C2 CAB

The plastic seems to be peeling on my ash tray door and around the key insert ring. Anybody else have this problem? Is it a warranty repair? This isn't heat because I rarely park it in the sun and I live on the cool coast.

My steering wheel is also getting dirty. I've seen this happen in other cars of mine. I get this black goop build up around 1 o clock on the wheel. Eventually, the leather starts to peel off. Any suggestions?

That kind of wear seems to be occupant induced (keys, nails, dropped objects). On the steering wheel it looks like the effects of perspiration - gloves prevents that. Eric at BumperPlugs can repaint the painted parts.

I agree on the wheel and key area. The ash tray, however, has just started peeling.

They are replacing my key surround under warranty. The slush finishes aren't holding up well, under even light use.

Nice to know about they key surround since mine is doing that too. Steering wheel seems fine though it is smoother around 3 & 9 o'clock on the wheel. My ashtray area is painted in exterior color and has no wear at all.

Alot of surfaces on my 06 Cayenne are wearing excessively and peeling despite being babied for 3 years. The rubberized paint does not hold up. There have to be more cases around. It should be a warranty issue. I hesitate to buy an 08 Carrera because of this finish issue unless someone can tell me if and when it was addressed. I might be assuming incorrectly that an 09 with different parts would alleviate the issue but maybe not. Anyone else?

I am planning to put leather over the key surround so that it's a bit more durable.

The wooden steering wheels do well--another reason to avoid the plain ones.

My steering wheel is holding up fine, but I do have the exact same issue on the ignition surround and ashtray lid. The only time I use the ashtray is when I plug in the battery maintainer. Didn't even know they could be warranty items, as my warranty just expired.

I too am having the same problem, good to know they'll cover it under warranty as mine is about to expire. I'm also showing wear on the fan speed lever for the HVAC, the rubber has worn off. I'm hoping they'll cover this under warranty.

I agree that the rubberized paint bits do not hold up well.

Anyone know if other than replacing parts, whether or not the issue has been addressed...do newer models have a different coating?

Dan: Are you getting the part from Porsche or doing it after market?

I also had my key surround replaced under warranty. If it happens again, my thought is to get carbon fiber trim. The rest of my trim is fine, but now I'm super careful and also use driving gloves to help prevent further wear.

Regular light cleaning of the steering wheel will help to prevent dirty build up like that.
