Default Battery Maintainer Cord, question

Hey guys, I just got my Porsche Battery Maintainer today and had a quick question that I couldn't locate by searching. For my 2006 997 S, how do I run the cord under the car door without pinching it when closing?

Any help/tips you guys can offer would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Jay Jones

I run mine under the passenger door and haven't had any problem.

I leave my window partially open and run it that way. I have also just closed the door on the cord without any problems.

I wrapped the area that could get pinched under the door in electrical tape, no problems for years.

Run it out the bottom of the door. Been doing it that way for a long time.
Cord will be fine.

On my (former) 996, there are two notches cut out of the rubber molding running under the driver's door. Not sure they're on the 997, but run your finger along the molding from the bottom and up towards the rear of the car to check. On mine, there is one notch on the bottom center and another around 1/3 way up the rear. It's there so you can run the charger cord out the bottom of the door without pinching the molding when the door is closed.

Any potential problems with running the cord through the sunroof tilt opening? I have an accessible electrical outlet above the car.

Mice?

Run it under the door and keep the car sealed.

The notch worked great on my 996, so I don't know why they removed that from the 997. Like others have said, I just run the cord under the door bottom, and it has been fine.

There are notches on the lower door rubber seal - use one of those.

To thread the cord through the sunroof is dangerous. Check if the sunroof does not shut itself automatically and fray the wire.

I read somewhere that one should always activate the alarm even when storing in the garage as it is less strain on the battery. So if using a maintainer does it matter if the alarm is activated or not?

On my 993 I ran the cord out the bonnet and just closed it on the cord. The rubber seal is thick enough that it didn't hurt the cord. I haven't used it on the 997 yet, but will probably do the same. I just realized your using the cigar liter to connect with where I went to the battery.
