Default Shipping?

Looks like I may have closed the deal on a C4S. The question now is shipping. The car is 1300 miles away. I could go get it but time is money, work is busy, and the drive isn't that appealing. I am being quoted roughly 1500 common carrier and roughly 2500 for a pickup pulling an enclosed trailer. The latter gaurantees arrival within a week and the former could be as much as three weeks, according to the dealer. Your thoughts?

I highly recommend DeMoise (www.demoise.com), I have used them and so have a bunch of friends. Call them (Bill DeMoise) and get a quote. The prices you were quoted seem high for the mileage involved.

2.5 to 3.0 hour flight? 2 day drive back with "new" Porsche? And drive not appealing? Is the drive back over broken glass all the way?

Do an online search for car transport. I did a few months ago -- was directed to a web site and filled out request for quote and was hit with about 6 quotes. I never used any of the transport companies but found another way to get car home, but some of the quotes sounded interesting and were under $1500 though for about 1/2 the 1300 miles you're facing. Watch the fine print though and be sure you have all the insurance on the car you can have, in case car turns up missing or damaged.

Sincerely,

Macster.

LOL-My wife said something similar. NY Metro area to Nebraska is not my idea of appealing - too much congestion. LA to Nebraska would have been another matter.

I just had a car shipped from Florida to Pittsburgh, approximately 1200 miles, enclosed, for $1095. It was picked up on a Friday and I had it Tuesday morning. I used High End Transport, Inc. and was very pleased with the service. I have also had great luck with Road Scholar, out of eastern PA. They might be your ticket for a car in NYC.

Last month, I had a dealer ship a Mercedes Benz from Sarasota Florida to Tucson Arizona, $900, insured. I got the car in < 4 days.

Having said that, I bought my Porsche two years ago ~1000 miles from home, and the best part of it was taking a 1 way flight then enjoying the 2-3 day drive back! It was a blast! In two years of ownership, those may have been the most fun days I have had with my 996 to date.

Nebraska to NY? Take side roads, explore a couple towns on the way to break up the freeway monotony. Although you said work is busy, this may not be an option. In that case, get another quote on the shipping, seems high...

You're getting taken for a ride on the shipping. Demoise is shipping my car cross country in an enclosed trailer for 1500 ... Intercity quoted 1600 ... both best effort, not guaranteed dates.

I've found that prices vary a lot based on what route you're on (or not on as the case may be).

My experience with open trailers wasn't great. Car was on the top (not guaranteed) but showed up filthy and with a door ding after being pulled backward around the country. Bug mess was unbelievable!

In any case, good luck!

I went with National Transport LLC. $1095 for Chicago down to Pensacola, Florida in an enclosed trailer. Easy to work with, car was picked up Saturday and is being delivered today (wednesday)

Thomas Sunday in PA shipped my car to its new home in Michigan. Not sure what they charged, but the staff people at the office were terrific and the driver was professional, and extremely careful with the vehicle. The new owner found no problems with the car following enclosed transport. They do alot of race car shipping as well as exotics. Here's their website: http://www.sundayautotransport.com/

What better way to get acquainted with your new Porsche than drive it back from the dealer. We did much the same thing, enjoyed every minute of it. Anyway, congrats.

mander,

We will be glad to offer you a price quote to transport your C4S. Please let us know what city and state the car is picking up from and what city and state it is delivering too.

Thanks,
