Thanks so much...very informative.

Follow up question, if Manheim serves as the "floor" for dealers' retail used car prices, what is a reasonable markup to offer a dealer above Manheim?

I'm looking for a clean 07 C4S cab and would like the Manheim values as my starting point (btw, can I ask you to run that report), what is a reasonable offer above that price.

Finally, when do MY prices at Manheim reflect the fact that 2010 MY are hitting the dealerships?

You can also look at the residuals PFS (and others) offer for another view of values - they are typically pretty close to reality in my experience.

Interesting to note that a C2S cab with a 6-speed has one point higher residual at 36 months than the PDK - .54 vs .53 and the coupe has 2 pct higher yet at .56 (All are 36/10K leases)

Similarly a C4S coupe loses 2 pct to the C2S - presumably due to market demand ?

Here are the numbers. As far as dealer profit and what they are willing to hold out depends on what they actually paid, what they think its worth, how long they're willing to let it sit as they fish the market. From my experience and knowing dealers, many will work with you and buy you what you want at auction for a profit of around $500 in their pocket. For a dealer, a Porsche many times is not one of the cars on their list that they are going to auction for, so for them presaling one for $500 profit when all they have to do is bid to your specified ceiling, is no big deal. They are at the auction anyways. You just have to make sure they are getting you what you want since you can't go look at the car first (but Manheim has a very rigorous inspection process and that you are able to review...Manheim doesn't mess around with these inspections and has built a solid reputation and does stand behind and have some guarantees in place. Nobody wants to try be dishonest in this whole process, because Manheim will take away credentials and ban the dealer from participating in any future auctions).

No those are the numbers for an '07 requested by Seegloblu. '09 not yet available, and when they are, they will be for a small sampling.

I have bought and sold several cars and Manheim and been many other times, there is no inspection. Its basically the honor system and if you dont disclose "frame damage" then you could be on the hook as a seller and your reputation will suffer and be known therefore your cars risk trading at lower values in the future.

As far as depreciation based on the next MY year I would not expect a ton for a while for two reasons. First of all you can easily buy a new 09 at a steep discount already and second its no mystery that the next MY is coming and people (dealers) already are discounting the crap out of pre owned since the new ones are so cheap. Production numbers for MY 10 have been cut back huge since Porsche does not enjoy selling 105k dollar 911's for 85 grand
