Battery Maintainer -- How Often Do You Use It?
Hi Guys,
How often and when are you using your battery maintainers
for your 997's?
The owner's manual is vague about when the maintainer
should be used depending on how long the car will be sitting.
I have heard it should be used if the car sits for more than
a week, however, this seems unecessary.

Three Wheelin'
I just connect it everytime I park - easier than worrying about a schedule. But I do not drive every day - if you do, and drive a decent distance, you might not need it at all.

I use my car every weekend and I put at least 100 miles on it each weekend so I do charge the battery up. I am not using the battery maintainer yet but I do plan to use the maintainer during the winter months when I expect that I will not have so many chances to drive the car.

So you guys are in the habit of using the maintainer
quite frequently.
I don't drive it every day; perhaps three times per week.
Has anyone heard any negative effects of using the maintainer
too often?

Holy smokes! I only plug mine in when I store the car for the winter. Either the 05 Boxster S or the 09 C2S can sit just fine for weeks on end without use and there's zero impact. I did the same with my GT3, 07 C2S, etc. There's no battery / draw problem with these cars that I've ever heard of or experienced myself. I suppose if I knew I wasn't going to drive either Porsche for say a month, I'd plug it in (I do have 2 maintainers for winter).

Mine caused my battery to overflow, covering the floor in a pool of white liquid. I stopped leaving it plugged in after that incident. I think the white stuff was very acidic, it appears to have left a lasting mark on the cement floor.
