Default Market study on LED driving light..

Recently, someone posted here on aftermarket LED driving lights kits. The responses wasn't great due to high price and not so frill looks. Techart came out with a set for the TT and its too is pricey yet look great.
My questions are, at what price range will one pay for a decent / attractive designed LED driving light kit? Will a true diehard 997.1 fan say no at any price? Will one entertain the idea at all? It will be made in US with quality led parts from Osram or Cree. No cheap import components and with a warranty. Will it be too Ricey or too Wicked? I see a market for LED driving light, will it fit here?

I've been a big non-believer in the safety claims made by proponents of Daytime Running Lights. I think here, in sunny Southern California, headlights in the daytime are ineffective at best and distracting at worst.
But, I think LED DRLs actually work - even during the day. I love the way Audi uses them. And, I think the LED DRLs on the 997.2s look very nice.
Would I "retrofit" my 997.1 with a kit? Nope.
My car wasn't designed to have LED DRLs - and, for me, that's it.

Even it's priced @ under $500?

My biggest concern is Voiding the Factory warranty or Product Liabilty. I know it will not short out the car. There is alway a chance someone will goof. I've have the design but...

I know that it could be done for less than $150 so why are designers and manufacturers gouging us for big bucks?

Honestly, if I still had my 997.1 I wouldn't even think about changing something like head / tail lights, LEDs, etc. I never understood why people would change out perfectly good lights. In my case, I got clear corners from the dealer without asking - it was something they did and that only cost them $29.95. The car is what it is. It has functional lights. Leave well enough alone.

That's why I'm targetting around $500. Cost of development should be around $4k, mold design, trial and error, couple of bumpers etc. Actual cost, is around $150. If I do in in Alum housing, it may cost more but heat dissipation will greatly enhanced. Melted the plastic on the previous tried. With the board help and inputs, I can save on marketing cost. Little haggling here and there. $499 retail, $300 wholesale. $350 group buy. It's do able. Wondering can I get a spot on Sharktank? Thx for the input!!!!

If you're doing this in place of our existing "fog lights" then you should strive for a FORM FIT FUNCTION replacement of the front turn signal/fog cluster. If you put several white LEDs in there to substitute for the fogs, and then a few yellows to substitute for the turns, then you will have something. People can ship you their serviceable cores and you can disassemble them (I believe they are plastic welded) and install the guts of them, including within the housing, the appropriate resistors so that the set up emulates the existing voltage so that the integration is fully invisible to the PCM and light-failure sensors.

That's my thought, too.

Thx for the input. Didn't think about tripping the PCM. It will not be a substitute. Had it on the back burner for a while. Saw the price tag on the Techart and kind of revived the project. Not cheap but inexpensive Aux light source. DOT approval req? Product liability was the killer of the project. Will try it one more time.

I know I'm reviving a really old thread but I think someone should really make some good quality leds for the 997.1. I have an idea to do it fairley cheap if any manufacturer wants to take a shot at it. Something like what ruf does can be done really easily and pretty cheap. Make a cover to go where the fogs are now and insert led. They can use these leds

which are really good and are only $250 and sell it for about 5-600.
