I want to remove the ugly clear bra. Please advice on the best way to do it.

Good call, they SUCK!!! My new CAB came with it, not my choice.

Anyway, I didn't want to wait for the professional installer to come out and remove it. So, he told me to do this:
- Remove the Porsche emblem from hood, access is underneath via 2 small holes, use 8MM nutdriver.
- Let the car sit out in the hot sun for a couple hours
- Start with an edge and pull with a continuous force until it meets the center, then repeat with the other edge section. Continue this process until done.
- Use something like this polish to remove remaining adhesive, there will be some. This Midnight Special stuff is amazing, removes the adhesive like butter. Do not try and rub the adhesive out or use windex, alcohol, or bug remover. The Midnight Special literally denigrates the adhesive and leaves the paint beautiful.

best is to use a heatgun if you have one to loosen the adhesive and slowly pull from corner to corner. Do not too much heat, just make it get really warm, but not enough to bubble and keep it moving over each area as you pull slowly.

have on hand some 3M adhesive remover or Prepsol to remove any remaining adhesive left over.

I have it on my previous C2S and worth every penny if done correctly and good film.

I was specifically told NOT to use a heat gun by the Professional installer who owns the 3M business most of the New Englang Porsche dealers use. Using a heat gun can destroy your paint, fast.
If you feel you need to use a heat gun pay a professional to remove it so they bear the liability. In the winter time the pro uses buckets of very hot water to soften the film, then removes it as I described in my previous response.

 

You want to use it just to pass over the areas to loosen it just enough, not that long to effect paint. Distance and settings matter. The reason they told you is most people cannot correctly remove the film with a heat gun correctly and end up burning the paint.

So, if you were informed by an installer, why don't you just let them handle it? For crying out loud, you can obtain a Porsche, but not pay for a professional to handle the film removal?

Hell, I can install/remove film, but since I do not do this on a daily basis, I had the firm I use to film my car. Same goes for the Sirius install to PCM, sure I could do it, but ther are better qualified people who do it all the time.

Do yourself and your car a favor, let them handle it!

Until they invent rock-proof-paint, black car+clear bra = good idea...unless the car is show only and not on the road.

 

I'll let the next caretaker worry about it.

 

If I may ask, why did you find the clear bra ugly? Discoloration? Unsightly edges?

I had the clear film recently installed on the front quarter of my car (full hood plus front quarter-panels), and don't believe its noticeable unless specifically looking for the edges.

I guess I'm becoming more like my grandparents who had clear covers on their sofas and vinyl runners on their carpet.

 

I have only the front part of the hood and I just hate the edges. I also think the color is just of from the rest of the car. Plus its just not cool.

 

Just recently found this product for those of you who want to travel with the car and protect it quick and easy, without using blue painters tape and spending lots of time masking it up. Same concept, much cheaper and when you get to where you are going, remove it and enjoy the car as it was intended to be enjoyed.

A line across the hood or any panels was unacceptable to me.

 

Don't forget that ugly stuff is also stuck on the car just before the rear tires. That should come off just as easy.
