Default Sport Shifter / Sport Exhaust--Is There A Big Difference?

I don't have the sport shifter in my 997, however, I am considering
selling my 997 to my law partner and getting one with sport exhaust and
a sport shifter. I found an 06 which has both and super low miles, although I have not driven a 997 with either of these options.

Any thoughts on this combination?

I have both and like them. The shifter has a short throw and a great action. The sport exhaust has a great sound that you can hush with the push of a button. The shifter can be added aftermarket, and I would do that if I did not have it. Not sure I would add the exhaust but it is a great sound. I don't think you have to trade cars to obtain either one.

They are both good options to have, especially the sport exhaust.

PSE is awesome. Once you've heard it, you'll leave it on all the time.

I thought the same until I fried the right side. Now that the CPO does not cover the PSE I am going with the Darin Fister special!!

Careful with it on all the time.

If you are looking for a new car that is one thing, but you can add the short shift and the sport exhaust or a sport exhaust rather inexpensively.

Great combination. You'll enjoy it.

Short downshifts and the pops and gurgles from the PSE Symphony are outstanding. Be sure to add the X51 Headers on the cheap and easy DIY for an even throatier tune.

I love my sport shifter. Throws are short and precise.
It's difficult to get into 1st when it's cold outside though.

From much earlier discussions on Rennlist (prior to my ordering) I learned that these are two very good options. They went onto the list. I take the short shifter for granted now, and have the PSE on about 98% of the time. (And I, too, added the X51 headers!)

Have had / driven both, don't like either. Here's why...

The stock shifter in the 997 is a short shift compared with the 996 by about 35% if I remember correctly. The 997 Sport shifter is even shorter, tighter, and more finicky. Often, it's hard to get into 1st and the 1st / 2nd can be tough as well. Just too much effort for no gain.

PSE is also finicky, where even if you turn it on (loud), it will turn itself off depending on the RPM. It adds weight and complexity to the exhaust system and adds no performance (meaning, zero HP, zero Torque). It's just louder.

Honestly, if you are considering selling a car just for a shifter and exhaust, you can save yourself a lot of trouble and spend the $500 or so that you can get a sport shifter for and also try some other exhaust trick like putting on AWE mufflers. If you want a beautiful sound and some actual HP / Torque, do what I did on my 07. Change out the stock headers and cats for Porsche X51 headers and AWE cats and that really frees up the system. The car was more powerful, more fuel efficient, and sounded awesome. But, not too loud and you can easily modulate the loudness - keep the revs and % of throttle lower and cruise through your neighborhood without bothering anyone. But, step on it and use the higher RPM band and listen to the wonderful mechanical music.

Didn't you just buy your car? Swapping out your car just to get those two options which are easily and inexpensively added doesn't sound like a good deal.

I love my OEM SS.

Yes, I did just buy my 997 and I love it. However, I could probably
work this deal where it would not cost me any additional money
and I could pick up a list of nice options and drop about 10,000 miles.
We'll see.

Thanks for all your input guys.
