Default Adding Nav?

I've located a new C4S that is what I want except no NAV. How easy is it for a dealer to add? Thx.

Can be done, and it's not that complex. Often people buy these parts from a discount dealer.

Correct on PCM 2.1, but PCM 3.0 in the '09s is a different story. You need to replace the whole PCM unit. Very expensive to do.

There is doubt as to whether it can even be done on the 997.2

I thought about buying an 09 without it (navi) and I couldn't get a definitive answer as to the feasibility of adding it, never mind the cost. I passed and found a car with it. The KISS theory!

That should tell you all you need to know.

Should not be hard to find a car like the one you want with nav. Do you really want to open up the factory seals in the dash to swap the unit? It will just lead to rattles down the line

Having been in there, you won't find any factory 'seals' so have at it! When I installed my bluetooth Tooki unit it wasn't nearly as complicated to dig into that area as they would lead you to believe. (A little knowledge in electronics and fiberoptics doesn't hurt...)

This is still not possible. The upgrade kit part numbers have not been released. I have even looked at finding the nav PCB from a totaled car, but have also been told that the activation codes need to come from Germany and if the car didn't have nav from the factory, they won't give an activation code to the tech.

3rd party units abound

my Garmin 705 that i bought for cycling does a great job.

if you drive to places you are unfamiliar with often, then i can see it. but $2K for as many times as most get lost? just no ROI for me at least.

I have not looked at the 997.2 PCM system, but the 997.1 PCM can be upgraded to nav simplying by adding the map DVD drive into the MOST fiber ring, similar to adding a Tooki bluetooth kit.

For what Porsche charges, why not just go with a nice aftermarket set-up like the Pioneer AVIC GPS/DVD??

Personally I have my eye on the New AVIC Z110BT, which is due for release soon.
