European Delivery Program - Suspended
If you were thinking about doing it
the European Delivery Program has been suspended.
For how long that is unknown... check with your dealer.

Maybe there won't be any production.
Sorry, couldn't resist.

They likely have a minimum number of orders on a per month basis that establishes their breakeven point for this option. Once that average falls below the breakeven point, as it likely has in this worldwide tough economy, it's time to cut losses by suspending this program.

That bites. This was the only "option" that I regret not getting with our current ride, and one we plan to get next time around.
I'm sure either a rebound in the economy or a rebound of the dollar would see this program put back in place.

Because it obviously costs them more than that for this special processing.

I cant imagine why they're cutting the program for now unless they think that it looks bad in this economy to have people driving their new Porsches all over Europe.

Tourist delivery is $2250 for 911s. They let Gabriel go, who ran the program out of Atlanta.
It's probably due to the release of the Panomara. No tourist delivery for the Cayenne. It would create a logistics problem getting the cars from Leipzig.

What's your take?
Btw, it's not linear at all. It's a point. A cutoff point.
The operations manager has a responsibility to keep costs down. This is the only thing he can control is costs, as he has no control over revenue. In a manufacturing facility costs are allocated on a per unit basis. There are marginal costs as well as marginal profits per unit. Everything is done on a per unit basis. When the unit numbers are not there to justify an option it really is a no-brainer for the operations manager, assuming no emotional attachment.
If the reason for suspension was cost, it's likely because the numbers didn't justify keeping it in place for now.
