I think those that hear "its just a car" perceive that comment as demeaning the value of the porsche as a represenation of transportation- rather I would say a porsche owner that says that has come to terms with his purchase and chooses not to obsess with dings and scratches or swirl marks. None of us are more or less of a porsche owner
Well said. Daily driver for me.

DD for me. of course i was pissed when somebody keyed mine. in the grand scheme of things, the guy that did it is the one with the issue, not me. i just have a big inconvenience on my hands.

it's just a car. it's a reaally nice, fast, fun car.

He then explained he was walking to his car minutes earlier and saw a shopping cart being blown by the wind towards my door and he ran over and intercepted it!

For all the azzholes and haters, there are many more decent people.

Of course I try like hell to drive very courteously and earn karma points by letting people in/out of traffic and turns.

But I can certainly imagine being in an area of slackers and the "entitlement" types and catch a negative comment.
Once upon a time, there was a discussion on this too...

I take care of it, like I do anything I own that's nice, but I enjoy the hell out of it every day. And I'm extremely thankful to have had the opportunities I've had that enable me to afford it. Oh yes. I think I created quite a "discussion" after I asked a simple question.

I have seen my fair share of Porsche hate. I recently moved out to the suburbs and have noticed people eye balling me more. I am not a really "friendly" driver either, so I guess I invite the odd middle finger. I do feel I can be an ******* when driving sometimes, but hey I didn't get to where I am in life by being nice to everyone. I am just being myself. This is who I am. If your not pissing off someone, your probably not very successful. Some people find success annoying.

The fact that mine was used when I bought it makes it easier to drive it and not worry too much. So far no Porsche hate. They are like Civics out here in the SF bay area anyways. I do sense a bit of envy. Depending on who envys you it can drive them to work harder, or drive them to hate you more. I don''t pay much attention to the later. I'll let my tax dollars worry about them instead...

You might be the one bringing hate down on the rest of us. Do you really have to drive like an "*******"? Can't you try NOT pissing someone off? Maybe just for a day?

Gosh Ben, you are letting me down by not posting all of your search results on this topic.

In the three years of Porsche ownership (911C2S), I have never received a single complement on my car. My a-hole friends make fun of me, and the general public just simply do not care. I have had my car spit on several times, frequently find chewing gum on the windshield, (all of this in the "secure" parking garage at the near by hospital), and once I actually left it over night on the street, and some worthless piece of **** took a baseball bat/2by4 too it.

Chicago is a very blue collar town, with way too many pockets of ****ty neighborhoods. I rarely see any nice cars unless I am in the Viagra triangle of Rush street. I guess people just do not understand that many of us drive a Porsche as a reward for hard work, not to show off wealth.

I was in L.A./Santa Monica with the wife a couple weeks ago, and it sure seemed like people have much more respect for nice cars out there than people do here. You L.A. people may correct me if my observations are off base.

"secure hospital parking lot" my a$$.

whether it's NWM, Rush or Stroger, you see what comes in the door. Oh, and check out the "Security Patrol". one paycheck away from the same!

that's why i love my Jetta. i get no respect, but i draw no attention either.

7 years of Porsche ownership, last 2 in a 997 GT3 clubsport and more recently an RS. The GT3 and RS are the only cars I've ever driven that get a thumbs up from bikers and truck drivers. Kids come over and take pictures with their mobile phones; if I've got time I'll let them sit in the car if they want.

Teenagers who can normally only grunt have been known to come over and say "nice car"!

Some people want to get in front at any cost; often as not they're welcome to it. if I'm feeling mean I'll just keep on their tail as they try and pull away!

Maybe you all need to get GT3s!

I like your attitude..

Yesterday the wife and I drive to a local RV store in the 997s, as I'm getting out of the car a guy pulls up to me and starts walking around my car saying nice car, he is getting out of an M6. States that he's in a mid life crisis and is thinking of buying a new 997s. He asked me how I like it. I say there is nothing like it.

As it turns out he is the owner of the RV stealership, which is huge, and where we bought our motorhome. FUnny how things work out with p-cars.

Hmmm, snow tires on an RS? Pot holes? Perhaps I would need to work some sort of GTS+RS deal at my dealership. Then I could have two Porsches for the A-Holes around here to trash.

You are very nice to accommodate people by letting them get up close and personal with your RS. I'm not sure I could be that friendly.
