Default Black C2 997.2 vs. Basalt Black C2S 997.2

I have searched and read all the threads I could find about C2 vs. C2S. My sense is with the 2009s the differences have been reduced but are still there. These are the two cars available to me if I want to get a deal done this month using the incentives. There is no track here, either would be my DD, mostly urban driving with some speed runs.

C2- 6 speed Black/Black
541 - Seat Ventilation
870 - Universal Audio Interface
810 - Floor Mats in Interior Color
686 - XM Radio
680 - Bose High End Sound Package
672 - Navigation Module for PCM
640 - Sport Chrono Package Plus
635 - Parking Assist System
XPA - Thicker Steering Wheel-Leather
603 - Dynamic Cornering Lights
475 - PASM
446 - Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
419 - 19" Carrera S II wheel
342 - Heated Front Seats
XSC - Porsche Crest in Headrest
619 - Bluetooth Phone Interface

C2S 6 speed Basalt Black/Black
810 - Floor Mats in Interior Color
P77 - Leather Sport Seats
P17 - PASM Sports Suspension Package
870 - Universal Audio Interface
446 - Wheel Caps with Colored Crest
640 - Sport Chrono Package Plus
619 - Bluetooth Phone Interface
680 - Bose High End Sound Package

I like how Basalt looks, my current ride is a White 2006 M5. So far they are offering me a better deal on the C2 because it is a launch car with XM that is unavailable here.

Anyone own both Black and Basalt? Other than the red calipers and white instruments would I be missing much with the C2?

Sorry for the long newbie post.

owned black, currently own Basalt. i like the Basalt far better, but color is a matter of taste

on the "S" issue i will just say that i would not have a non-"S"

I owned a black 997S (actually temporarily still do) and recently went through a decision between two 09 TT's, one black and one basalt. I had already decided black was my color, versus all other colors. The basalt TT had adaptive seats, thicker steering wheel, short shifter, all important options for me; the black TT had a few other things I liked but not adaptive seats. I ended up with the basalt car, and I am very happy with it (it was also a minor "change" from the previous black car, so a little change for the sake of change). Basalt does not have the same beautiful depth of clean and waxed pure black, but it does show very, very nicely in various lights.

Looks like the C2S has nice options but not overdone, while the C2 is a bit more loaded but not necessarily stuff you need. In any case, I would push you to go for the S - more HP, bigger brakes, additional options (can't list them off hand), and what seems like a nice option list.

I had a black C2S cab and was a little frustrated at how easily it showed dust and swirl marks. I have heard that basalt is more forgiving, as the swirl marks and dust don't show as much. But on the other hand, when both are cleaned and waxed, I think the black is unbeatable. I could easily own another despite the effort required to keep it looking nice. Re your choices, I think you are the only one who can assess the relative importance of the various options and features, and color. GL with your decision.

Are you are going to track you car or will this just be a daily driver? If you are going to track then C2S should be your car, if a daily, then you would benefit from the nav, park assist, xm.

Thanks everyone. It would be my DD most of the time, there is no track here right now so I might do some auto X but that's it. I agree that Basalt would be less work than Black and it looks great when clean.

Extra power and sport PASM (lowered with limited slip) would make me go C2S all the way.

The extra torque/HP of the S can be felt by the "seat of the pants" in daily driving, and is worth the extra money over the non-S IMHO. The options on your basalt S seem just right to me. The Sport PASM is a big plus and the leather sport seats, at least for me, are very comfortable and supportive. I think you would be very happy w/ the S, it's a very complete package.

For a daily driver I think you're nuts to go with solid black unless you have a large staff.

My 997.2 is basalt black - and "S". Previously had 2005 "S" seal gray - easier to keep clean for sure but the basalt is spectacular - almost has black chrome look to it in certain light. Very happy with it. After first "S" - no hesitation repeating the move this time. Good luck.

Thanks to all again. The Basalt does have a nice pop to it.
I fear a Black car for all of the reasons noted.
