carrera vs panamera
Why do carrera and panamera have similar pricing? 6 cilinder vs 8 cilinder; 2 seats vs 4 seats. Panamera seems a lots more car = more material, time to put together etc. Can someone explain this?

You raise a good point. I guess the margins are fatter on the Carreras, since we're all willing to pay the asking price even if they should be cheaper to manufacture than a Panamera.

911 has 40+ years of history behind it, it is the benchmark sport car that every other car manufacturers will compare to, there is a price to pay for these.
I think the panamera is overpriced, and I don't even want to predict its depreciation...
as for the cayman, it is just a hard top boxster, right??
(flame suit is on)

as a 4 time carrera owner I can't dispute the value in name- I will concede that the cayman/boxster set up is a more enjoyable handling car with the exception of the fact Porsche never put in the power as they do in the carrera line. If they were to put the same powerplant I think many here might re think the "carrera" mystique. Having had loaner boxsters in the past -it is like riding on rails and a more engaging drive. Having the engine next to your head would be a drone on a daily driver basis though

I think that car pricing has little to do w/ content, size, or materials. It's defined by marketing, R&D, and market conditions.

The Panameras are made on the Cayenne production lines, I saw this in 2007, therefore I assume the cabin is entirely manufactured by VW by "mass production" method at Wolfsburg, fully painted and trimmed they arrive at Leipsic for "marriage" with the undercarriage. This keeps the price down.

well i think it's going to be the Cayenne all over again. many skeptics at first.
this is going to be a luxury sports sedan with a very potent V-8 weighing less than two tons. Porsche's target is the S-class. made by the company that makes arguably the best car on the road
i don't imagine they will fail on product. the Market may be sub-ideal right now, but the product will deliver!

I'm sorry...but if I were to buy that unproven panasomething which is competing with the S class, I rather get the boring but stablished S class. I think this panasomething needs to be priced at 2/3 the carrera...IMHO
