All of that changed with the 997. Initially, Porsche delivered the car with two regular powered remote keys and a slender black plastic 'valet' key, all of which contain the chip necessary to open and start the engine. In MY08 Porsche began to delete the inclusion of the valet key.

Unfortunately, in order to maintain high security on these attractive vehicles, high security regarding the keys must also be maintained. Many years ago it was difficult to even BUY a blank Porsche key unless you could prove ownership to a particular vehicle. With eBay and Craig's list anything is purchasable today, but it doesn't mean that you can make it work!
