997.2 spare question
Seems the 997.2 c2s has a preformed dip in the front bonnet to accomodate a spare-- the 997 didnt have said dip- my 996 spare fits now nicely in the dip has anyone found a mechanism to secure it there?

My 997.1 has such a 'dip' (a photo would help) but it still doesn't resolve the question. Where do you put the rear wheel/tire you take off?

Is that a collapsible tire? To secure it perhaps you can use an extendable strap holding it down. I would only use it in road trips and in that case it would be held by soft luggage on top of it.

I've driven home from the track (1.5 hours) with a rear wheel/tire on my front seat. Granted, I did need to hold on to it on a few turns though. Just make sure to keep a tire tote or big towel in the bonnet....

as to where to put the tire the huge plastic bag that came with the spare quite helpful- who needs passengers thats what that extra seat is for. (dont ask me how I know it fits) in the 06 997 i could olny put the tire in there tilted on its edge the only dip i had was behind the wheel- im thinking i could secure it with a bolt on the covered front

Sometimes we forget how big these things are. This is a comparison photo between my old Fuchs 7 & 8 by 16 inch rims and the latest Carrera Sports (8.5 and 11.5 x 19). It makes the Fuchs forged alloys look like toys. Where do you stuff a wheel that large??

I had a rear tire go down on track with a 997S. It was a 305X19, and, with the right seat fully forward, it fit behind it fine. Luckily I had bought one of the collapsible spares, and it got me home without incident. I still have the spare, and carry it up front in a Cayman S. I just wedge a compact BMW jack kit beside the spare, and it rides fine, no bolts or tethers; where can it go?

I think many are interested in a spare for all sorts of times, to include road trips (with multiple passengers). On a road trip you would routinely carry luggage which would limit the location of the take off.

Okay, then where do I put my wife?

It's good to know that a collapsible tire can be used with the new 19s. I imagine that may not be the case on 4WD cars given circumference diff reqs.

wife + luggage = Lexus. My wife doesn't travel with me in a sports car. Guess you are stuck with either the fix-a-flat goop up front, or runflat tires, if available. Or, one of you drives the car home and the other hits the road hitchhiking! Guess that would be a short conversation.

any chance of securing the spare similar to how they are secured in the 996's. maybe some sort of long hooked bolt/nut from a home depot?
had my share of rear flats where i left the flat wheel/tire on the side of the road and came back for it after dropping off my passenger.
