Default Shifter boot removal

I'm planning to install my new OEM SSK this weekend. In searching the forums for info on how to safely remove the shifter boot/horse-shoe trim, I'm not clear on the process for my 07 997. Most info, including the B&M instructions, say to pry up on the silver trim at the back end and pull towards rear to release the front tabs. But I read on another 2-year old thread that on the 07 and later cars, the silver trim is screwed down, and you need to pry up on the leather boot first to expose the screws that hold the silver trim on.

Any help would be much appreciated, as I don't want to break something.

I solved the problem. The silver trim on my 07 is in fact screwed down, and the leather boot has to removed separately as shown in attached photo. I'm glad I didn't try any harder to pry off the silver trim.

There's plenty of information here if you search using "shifter" as your keyword:

Shifter is the most obvious keyword.

Too bad you couldn't think of it.

Search works best if you use just one key keyword. See the FAQ link.
