Default A.W.E. saga continues....

I know they are a sponsor of this forum, hoping that doesn't buy immunity from substantiated critique of product "weld" quality....

Bought the complete system from Mike @ AWE, spring 07,

1st image: by August 07 the original cans split, and Mike replaced them with their updated cans. Good Customer service!

2nd image: By summer 08 one of the sport cats split in half. The solution was to blame the installer for substandard work.. as he claimed has never happened before..... I declined his offer to inspect the Cat. I had them welded locally... Faster and better...

3rd image: Spring 09, the new updated cans have now split at the seam welds as well as the

4th image: cracked weld for "out" to tail pipe. The Catalytic "in" pipe weld is also split

5th image: case actually started to split away from split seam.

6th image: close-up of this split

Unsure why, but it's not rocket science to see that there's definitely a trend here.

$5,000.00 Cdn should buy better IMO.... but I've accepted my loss... live and learn.

Hope it resolves itself.

Boy, that does not look good at all. In a state of panic I went to look at my mufflers and they look good...however, I don't track my car.

LOL, Ya it pretty much has Chris.... I have what you see above... and AWE has my $5k!

After stating it was installed incorrectly, they claimed the cat was damaged from "tons of pre-load",.... which it was because the right bank AWE header is so poorly misaligned (but that's another quality issue...)... they offered to re-weld the cat, but I had to pay the shipping to and fro.... I knew then where they really stood... much easier to have it welded properly by a local welder, I'll do the same with the cans and see if anyone wants to buy them......

Uhm. I've never seen anything like that. Ever. Not even from a $2000 POS honda civic.

What are we missing?

I wish I had an answer. I like the system and what it offers performance-wise to my car.... just completely fed up with all the "other stuff"....

I had Borla and Fabspeed on my 2 previous Porsche's and never an issue.....

Well I had the same issue with some used AWE mufflers awhile back. They were of the first generation and they split all the way down the side.

I understand there was no warranty on the muffler but I tired anyway and was denied. I bought a set of Borlas for my 997 as I have had Borlas on previous rides from my 04 E46 M3 to several Mustangs I owned. I know people diss US exhausts on Porsches or other German cars but everytime I bought a specialty brand from Supersprint, AWE and Eisenmann the parts all broke. Not once with Borla have I ever had an issue. After all Borla makes dragster mufflers..I think they know what they are doing.

In AWE's defense Mike at AWE did offer (once I got the Borlas) to fix the AWE mufflers at no charge and I have yet to take him up on the offer but I will.

Personally I think if you bought the parts new from AWE they will make it right I do believe they are stand up guys over there.

I saw somw simular issue on a car at a track event at Sebring in early 08. i have heard of simular issue like this on the forums.
I am not bashing AWE and I hope they help you out...however I have to tell you I had Fabspeed mufflers on my 06 and 07...same set just swapped them over. They had 30,000 miles on them and over 38 track events....not 1 single issue with the wleds or internal guts of the muffler and they held up great.

Tracking an AWE system should have absolutely no issue on it's survival... and it's not like I live on the track... at the track maybe, but not on it

Thanks for the info and pictures to substantiate claim sometimes lack of sales causes them to make the changes..lets hope so.
