I wave; usually folks wave back. My wife thinks its dumb. My brother lives in CA and has an old Lotus Europa. He was driving this weekend and someone in an old 30s car calls out to him, "Nice Lotus!" He looks and it turned out to be Jay Leno!

I'm learning the ATL protocol. So far I have gotten waves and flashes - and responded in kind. I was surprised. I thought that was more of a BMW thing (so I was told by a dealer back in '78 on a test drive - he claimed that pulling back on the lever to blip the lights was originally unique to BMW - and coming from Chevy's who was I to argue ). Can't do that here with a BMW - you'd wear out your lever flashing every 3rd car.

What's cool here - really a treat - is that 911s are not a dime a dozen. Boxsters and Caymans either. You get an M3 and you see yourself coming and going, but I have had only a handful of 911 encounters in the past few weeks and mutual acknowledgement so far is 100%. I reckon in ATL it is still special and not so much a "show off" car yet; still considered as one o' them "farn" sports cars.

Looking forward to some of the local PCA get-togethers - should be fun.

I have to say in my 997 I rarely flash anymore...what's the use. However, in the 83SC if I see another old 911 I flash and I always get a flash back.

The newer the car, the less they flash back. That goes for all models.

To think that there is a difference in attitude between recent model buyers is simply self-congratulation. Give them time, if they have any brains they will realize the heritage, enjoyment and culture of the car they chose.

If not, they will buy the next shiny new car, and they were never worth it to start with.

Very astute observation.

Similar experience, here. I get more truly appreciative comments in my 83' SC, then when I'm driving the 997.

Hmmm... So I guess since my 3 Porsches have all been since 2006, I'm a brainless, self-congratulatory twit? FWIW, plenty of us with recent models FULLY comprehend the history, heritage, and culture of Porsche. I've been a fan since I can remember - my father had a '65 356C and a Speedster after that. Some of us don't need to "grow into it". For that matter, I've had plenty of '80s 911s around here completely ignore my waves/flashes/etc.

I saw a mint 356 on the 405 or 101 this past weekend...I don't remember which I was on at the time. He was busy driving and finally looked over. We nodded and smiled and I continued on my way.

I am a "20-30" driver that appreciates the brand heritage!

Wow, the lack of respect for Cayenne's I flash/wave at all P-cars whether in our pepper or 911

I do remember when I had my 914 and the 924's came on the scene - they never seemed to flash back.
