Default 997.2 vs. 997.1

Has Porsche fixed some of the annoyances on the 997.2 such as:
1. Auto shut-off of headlamps after key is removed.
2. Must hold passenger window up switch until window is >1/2 raised to used auto up feature.

?

You can fix the second item by installing a SmarTop module.

Auto shutoff is to prevent accidental battery drain. It is a common feature on all german cars I have owned. I doubt that is going to change.

Easy software updated I'm sure if the public see's issue with them Porsche will update the software as the car is matured. They have a history of doing this...

I agree. Why would anyone not want this feature?

The lights shut off when the key is removed and the bright LEDs stay on when "Home" on the light switch is selected. The passenger window...is still the same. I was wondering why they designed it that way.

I suspect the window feature is a safety measure to prevent someone from being accidentally caught in the window and have it go all the way up.

But if I recall correctly, the Boxster/Cayman models don't have this window safety feature ... wonder why the 997s were singled out for this?

Here is a direct link to "Mods4cars" who make the modules for the cabs and coupes.

As stated before the headlight off feature has been on German cars since (to my knowledge) since the 1970s. Every Porsche I have had since 1973 had that, as well as VW, Mercedes.

The window thing may have to do with how long you hold it. It seems to be no problem for me. Much of this sort of thing is safety related and mandated.

I have the Smart Top installed but don't think that affects the window function.

I can't find my documentation, but I'm almost sure one of the features includes the one-touch window up on passenger side.

Correction: I just checked the documentation on the "mods4cars" website and i see that the one-touch passenger window "up" is a feature of the module for the coupes, but not the module for the cabs.

I think there were a few other, more interesting things changed between the 1st and 2nd generation of the 997 we might discuss...........

Like the engine.

No, its a safety feature because some idiot got part of themselves caught in a power window and their mommy sued and now no one gets to have usable features in the US because of our tort system.

Same reason we have hideous stickers on both sides of our friggen sun-visors about the airbags. Porsche doesn't want to be a money-mine for stupid americans.
