Same here. 6000 + miles since I bought (which had 10500) my 06 C2S. The extra oil I bought is still in the trunk untouched.
Just FYI on this, Castrol is GF-4 compliant which means it has 800PPM max of Phosphorus, the element that prevent wear on metal, while the M1 0W-4 is not, meaning it has 1000+ PPM of Phos. M1 15W-50 has 1200ppm of phos.
My next oil change I will switch to 5w-40...oil weight is OK per the manual and see if that changes anything. I can;t find Mobil 1 in this weight but I found Castrol Syntech 5w-40.

I'd use 5w-40 or 50 Mobil 1 but cant not find it...it is also listed in my owners manual for approved viscosity, 15w-50 is not and I am told Vario-Cam will not operate properly with 15w-50.

Interesting. Castrol is on the Porsche approved list....maybe Castrol uses something else in there formula to prevent wear intstead of phosphorus?

Here's M1 Data Sheet that has the Phos info
The higher the Phos & Zinc the higher protection against metal wear.
or if its too small to view, here's the link

Here's a pretty good site with good articles for those interested in learning more about motor oils:

if your gonna track your car the 5W50 is the oil to go with... the 996/997 motors may suffer from some oil starvation and the thicker film and additives of the M1 5W50 oil will protect your bearings far better than the 0W40.... and our oil expert is correct... the 0W40 is thin... and is recommended by porsche for geographical climatic reasons... if your pushing your car or even driving around in warm weather then 5W50 is the way to go... I know of a team in 24 hour daytona race where they use 10W60... the engine gets so hot and runs for so long they use 10W60 cause after 24 hrs of racing only 1 litre has been burned!!!
5W50 is a good compromise.... it still has good flow while offering lots of protection for aggressive driving....

Since starting this thread I broke my right leg last Tuesday ! Looks like my oil consumption will be going right down for another 10-12 weeks at least. What is the average "return to the wheel" time for someone with a leg break ?

See that is what confuses me...A few track guys with 997 cars use 15w50 and a guy at Vortex (formerly Dave Whites) said I can use 15w-50 but these are gutted track cars with mods....BUT....I read so much from Porsche and from dealer techs that vario-cam will not operate properly with 15w50 and using a oil weight outside the manufactures requirments will void the engine warranty.
