Thinking about getting the sport shifter on my 08 997 C2S. I'm hoping the good people here can give me some feedback on what the pitfalls (if any) of this may be. Thanks!

Had an OEM SSK installed on my '04 996 shortly after I got the car and absolutely love it. Much notchier than the stock shifter, and more precise. Almost rifle-bolt type feel. I understand the 997 base shifter is better than the 996 version, but pretty much everyone who's done the mod loves it. There are tons of posts on this - do a search and you'll get lots of info. When it gets cold out you need to take a little extra care of the 1st to 2nd throw and gingerly bring her into gate. Otherwise a great mod. Somewhat of a PITA DIY as the rear center console needs to be removed.

Are you going with the B&M or OEM SSK. ?

Have factory, love it. a little stiff when cold, but, eases up quickly!

Where are you located? You're welcome to try the factory SSK in my 2008 997S.

Downsides:
- cost: nothing's free.
- a little notchyness when the gear box is cold

Upsides:
- much improved shifting feel

IMO, these cars should come with the SSK from the factory.

must have mod IMO, terrible stock..... biggest let down regards to getting into a 997 was the feel stock, added short shift and much better. I went B/M....

I had the OEM Porsche one dealer installed in my '07 C4S CAB. Amazing difference. Best thing I ever did to that car. I WOULD not have a 6-speed 911 without the Sports Shifter.

Is there much difference in feel/performance between the OEM and B&M?

Also, where could I find some info on a DIY for the shifter installation? I did a search but didn't really find anything. My dealer wants $500 for installation.

Not much if any difference in feel between the two.

$500 for install sounds a bit high. Takes no more than 2.5 hours. Removing rear center console is a PITA.

Love my OEM Sport Shift...never had a problem with notchiness, even on the coldest of mornings.
