Here's the solution that worked for me: After an intense track session, I let the car idle for a full 5 minutes before shutting it off. Then, upon next start up there will be NO white smoke.

Thanks, glad idling has worked for you. As I mentioned I have been letting idle 5-10 minutes and it does not consistently eliminate the start up plumes - seems to help except in 90+ degree weather which gives oil temps of 250-260 degrees at end of sessions. What kind of oil temps are you seeing? I am wondering if the 3rd radiator for extra cooling might help.

I am seeing normal oil temps, even on hot days.

well after losing 2 qts of oil per track day with lots of white smoke at start up, took it back in after oil separator already changed, leak down compression nearly perfect and now they scoped the cylinders and they look fine......i think 2 qts per day is a bit more than should be tolerated....also they have looked at the scavenger oil pumps.... ..maybe another dealership to take a look as my dealership hasn't dealt with this problem before....(i had to tell them to look into the cylinders thanks to some info from another rennlist member, and he got a new engine with scored cylinders and smoking similar to mine) thank goodness my car is a cpo 2005 997s....still under warranty. if they find nothing will get rid of the car before cpo is up.....any suggestions would be appreciated

What oil temps are you seeing? Not sure what "normal temps" are, manual gives no guidance. Thanks.

P.S. mine is a 2006 997S

I'm gonna have to wait until the next time I'm at the track to check to give you an accurate answer and not one based on what I think I remember from the last time I was at the track 2 months ago. I recall looking at all my gauges and thinking everything was OK.

If yours is a 2006 what white smoke issues have you experienced??

My 997S smokes on start up after track sessions, also used roughly 1/2 qt. of oil per day at the track. I have notice smoke issue and oil consumption get worse on very hot days, 90+ degrees. My oil temp gauge usually reads 250 degrees or so after track sessions but would be 260 or so on hottest days - the higher the temp the more consumption and smoke. After consulting with Farnbacher Loles, who felt high temps were the root cause, I recently had them add center 3rd radiator for more cooling. Did 3 track days this weekend running advanced groups for 5 1/2 hours total with no smoke and no oil consumption! Oil temp gauge never read above 225 degrees.

It was cool out so I don't yet know if the extra radiator will resolve the issue completely on hot days but I am optimistic based on this weekend's result. I speculate at high temps the oil mists/vaporizes more and slips past AOS more readily especially when you ease off throttle at high revs like at end of session, which causes high vacuum draw on the AOS.

P.S. - since the front bumper cover has to be removed to install the radiator, I had them install radiator grilles while they had the cover off - adding them also requires removing the covers so it was a good time to do that and protect all 3 radiators from street and track debris.

I have an 05 997 S and I have not had the smoke problem at the track. But I have not run it on hot days. It consumes a small amount of oil over a 2-3 day weekend.
