Default Ipod Issues (Universal Audio Interface)

I just tried a new ipod in my 09 TT (posting here because of the wider audience). Got the ipod recognized, menus, etc. and showed songs playing, but no audio through the system. This is a Gen 6 ipod, the manual does not show it as supported (but I think it's two new to be in the manual).

Wondering whether anyone has found the UAI to be incompatible with ipod Gen 6 or has had the same problem?

Also, the connector included with the car is a pain (not clearly marked for the top, and also the cable is very stiff and has to be wrapped around - would be much better with an Apple-type soft pliable cord).

When I first got my car the dealer couldn't figure out how to get my IPhone to connect up. What I had to do was the following:

Connect a USB device with at least one song. Then you can go into the settings for the Aux - USB - IPod settings and set the devices to be "always" available. Then you can connect your Ipod and set the UAI to IPod and it will work. You can see my other posts to see problems with the UAI. Hopefully there will be a fix. Let me know if you can't figure this out and I can provide more detailed information. I couldn't figure out another way to do get to the menu other than with a USB drive.

I should note I have a 09 TT as well....maybe the UAI on the TT is different from the NA cars? Anyone know?

We're encountering Porsche issues and Apple iPhone 3G issues.

Even with bluetooth.

Bizarre to say the least.

What are the Bluetooth issues? My iPhone 3G seems to be working perfectly in that regard.

Guess I'm lucky. My original iPhone works great, both the iPod feature and the Bluetooth features, and it charges. I'm totally happy. 997.2 C2S Cab.

My iPod Photo connected up all on its own, no special processes. Just plugged it in it got recognized by the PCM3 all on its own - iPod shows up as an option in the 'source list'. 2008 Targa 4

That cable is insanely bad.. built like a tank. It will hold up for 20 years, because you cannot bend the damn thing. They certainly could have designed that thing better.

Sounds like another example of Porsche engineering--put in a cable capable of towing a barge. But hey, what has it been? 6-8 yrs before Porsche finally has gotten on the MP3 player bandwagon? You don't want the thing to break, now do you?

Well, solved the problem. DOOFUSS (yours truly) got so frustrated trying to fight with the stiff cable and align it to plug it in that I bent the pins, hence it wouldn't put out sound. When I tried to straighten the pins one broke off. So I snagged the cable from my wife's new Cayenne S and it works like a charm (and my dealer is holding a new cable for me).

I do think the cable is way too stiff and is a pain.

Does anyone know if 870 Universal Audio Interface can be added to an 09 Carrera (that didn't come with it) by the dealer?
If it can't be added on, does anyone know how I can play my mp3 USB thumb device thru the car's Bose stereo?
Thanks,
Don

Thanks very much ADias. It is kind of a deal breaker believe it or not if the dealer couldn't add it.

I received my 2009 Cayenne S back from the dealers with the Ipod attached to the UAI completely dead, tried my other Ipod in and intermittently being recognised by PCM, then disappearing. Dealer says all their Ipods are charging - taking no responsibility for destroying 1 Ipod and being unable to link another- in Uk this is a £475 option.
Any Ideas please

My GTS drives my Gen 1 80 GB iPod fine, although maybe 1/3 of the time it doesn't recognize it on start up. A simple unplug/replug solves the problem. No problems playing stuff off my iPhone4 with the most recent firmware. Both charge off the adapter.

A few notes...
- If the iPod is locked up/not-responding try whatever reset procedures are on the Apple site (my older ben classic iPod every now and then locks up or drain completely, right now it works 100% of the time with my 911).
- If it is drained, plug into apple charger, bigger USB is much better than smaller usb. Let charge for a while and then see if it responds or can reset.

Unless it is physically damaged I find using the reset for the model almost always brings it back to life (assuming it has a charge).

Hope this helps.
