Default Did my engine get damaged?

I had a 3rd radiator installed.

When doing so we lost A LOT of coolant.

So after we added coolant and left it.

Today on a drive all the sudden my coolant light came on warning me that coolant was low, so I turned around and went home.

2 miles later the engine temp jumped from 175 to 225+, and a few seconds later a warning light came on telling me ENGINE TOO HOT!

I immediately pulled over and turned the engine off.

I had a friend bring me my extra gallon of coolant, added the coolant and drove it home with the water temp stable at 175 and oil temp stable

COULD MY ENGINE HAVE GOTTEN DAMAGED BY OPERATING AT THAT HIGH OF A TEMP, EVEN IF ONLY FOR A FEW SECONDS ????

Should I take it to the dealer tomorrow?

porsche coolant.

i added 1 gallon coolant and 1 gallon distilled water prior.

then i added 3/4 coolant and 1/4 distilled water after the above incident.

I ran out so i will have to get more tomorrow from the dealer to burp it at home.

I remember reading a 996 thread on replacing the
coolent reservoir. It talked about the pain filling up
the radiator. There is some way of burping that
helps. I would give it about a week of constant
checking.
It does not sound like you damaged the motor.

Another thing was that the oil temp was getting pretty hot too..

i think it was over 250... and that was the reason the warning light was coming on.

There was a procedure on RennTech to get the burps out of the cooling system. Not sure if its the same for the 997.
I changed my coolant bottle on the 996 when it split and it took a lot of time to get all the bubbles out.

BTW have they fixed the coolant tank issue on the 997 ? I havent seen any reports of any failures, but every 996 had this after 4 years or so.

I called about 10 dealers today and explained the story, they all said it would be fine.

They stated that the light was a warning and it was good that i turned it off and cooled it, if i would have driven it for a while after the light came on they stated then damage would have occurred.

I'm 99.9% sure the car is fine, but its still in the back of my mind, especially because i go above and beyond care of this car.

I guess I will find out next time I track the car, and perhaps in the next year.

Hopefully if an issue does arise it will be within the next 2 years while I still have my CPO warranty.
