I will let a friend try it out with me in the car if they accept the following reality:

You break it, you fix it, don't count on me claiming it from my insurance.

...usually that turns away half of them.

Thanks for all your thoughtful responses! And thanks Soulteacher for providing the links to similar threads-I actually did a search but could never get decent results-must've used wrong key words. I especially enjoyed the thread about the one guy not wanting his wife to drink coffee in the Porsche he "gave" to her. Ha Ha-my wife loved it too. Anyway I changed my mind-I WILL let responsible friends/family try out the car...I totally agree that it's just a car (albeit a nice, expensive one) but still doesn't rank close to the top in my life. My plan is to drive it everyday as a daily ride, regardless of weather (except snow-too worried about traction) or the possibilities of damage (parking dings, highway debris/hood chips, etc etc-too me, these will be signs that I've driven and ejoyed the car for what it is, and not something to depreciate just sitting in the garage (which reminds me of a friend of mine who's had a corvette, nsx and s2000, but never drove them for fear of damage).
